Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-13-14

The Chihuahuas and the Storm were the only two teams to earn victories on the farm tonight. The Chihuahuas relied on a 4-hit game from Reymond Fuentes while the Storm relied on a strong start from Coby Cowgill.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Reymond Fuentes

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Coby Cowgill

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Salt Lake Bees 4

Reymond Fuentes – LF: 4-4, RBI, 2 Runs scored

Tyler Greene – SS: 0-3, BB, K

Chris Nelson – 2B: 0-4, RBI, K

Cody Decker – 1B: 1-3, 2B, BB, K

Billy Buckner – SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 2BB, 4K, 2 HR Allowed

Notes: Reymond Fuentes is now on an 8 game hitting streak; he has multiple hits in each of his last 4 games and is hitting .447 over his last 10 games. Needless to say he’s been hot at the plate. Following today’s game, Fuentes is hitting .301 over 296 combined AB’s between El Paso and San Antonio.

San Antonio Missions 2, Frisco RoughRiders 11

Cory Spangenberg – CF: 0-5, 2K

Casey McElroy – 2B: 2-5, K, Run scored

Jason Hagerty – 1B: 0-4, BB, 2K

Rymer Liriano – LF: 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, Run scored

Austin Hedges – C: 1-4, BB, 2K

Yeison Asencio – RF: 2-3, BB

Josh Geer – SP: 5.0 IP, 14H, 9ER, 2BB, 2K (L, 5-8)

Notes: Rymer Liriano enjoyed his first multi-hit game since July 3rd. Liriano has been quite streaky this year, and he’s looking to finally break out of the offensive funk he’s been in. Austin Hedges’ offense hasn’t been great this year as he’s hitting just .242 after tonight’s game, but his defense has been as good as ever as he threw out both runners who attempted to steal on him.

Lake Elsinore Storm 4, High Desert Mavericks 2

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-4, K, Run scored

Benji Gonzalez – 2B: 1-4, RBI, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-3, 2K, Run scored

Dane Phillips – C: 2-3, RBI, BB

Diego Goris – SS: 1-4, RBI, K

Luis Domoromo – DH: 1-4

Coby Cowgill – SP: 6.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, 3BB, 2K, HR Allowed

Notes: Dane Phillips has hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games and is hitting .395 over that time. After hitting .295 over 156 AB’s with Fort Wayne, Phillips is hitting .307 over 114 AB’s with Lake Elsinore. Between the two clubs he is hitting .300 with 7 home runs and 53 RBI’s. The 7 home runs and 53 RBI’s are career highs for Phillips.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 7, South Bend Silver Hawks 10

Trea Turner – SS: 1-5, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 1-5, K

Fernando Perez – DH: 0-3, K, 2 Runs scored

Franmil Reyes – RF: 2-5, HR(7), 3RBI, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Jake Bauers – 1B: 0-2, 2BB, 2K, Run scored

Nick Schulz – LF: 2-4, RBI, Run scored

Ronald Herrera – SP: 4.1 IP, 11H, 7ER, 0BB, 2K

Notes: Trea Turner made his TinCaps debut tonight and went 1-for-5 with a single and 2 stolen bases. Coming out of NC State, Turner was touted as having remarkable speed and he has not disappointed as he has been successful in 11 of 12 stolen base attempts between Fort Wayne and Eugene.

Eugene Emeralds 2, Boise Hawks 6

Franchy Cordero – SS: 1-3, BB, K, Run scored

Jalen Goree – 2B: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB, 2K

Marcus Davis – DH: 0-4, K

Nick Torres – RF: 1-4

Trae Santos – 1B: 2-4, K

Jose Carlos Urena – LF: 1-4, HR(1), RBI, K, Run scored

Thomas Dorminy – SP: 2.0 IP, 1H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 1K

Notes: Franchy Cordero is now riding a 7 game hitting streak; he is hitting .368 over his last 10 games and .286 over 98 AB’s with Eugene. The Padres pushed Cordero earlier this season as he was originally assigned to Low-A Fort Wayne, but after hitting .188 over 22 games with the TinCaps he was demoted.

AZL Padres 6, AZL Mariners 9

Ruddy Giron – SS: 1-3, 2B, BB, 2 Runs scored

Jordan Paroubeck – LF: 1-4, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Michael Gettys – CF: 3-4, 2B, 3 RBI

Jonas Lantigua – 1B: 0-2, RBI

Mason Smith – RF: 1-3, BB, K

Carlos Belen – 3B: 1-3, BB, K

Walker Weickel – SP: 2.0 IP, 3H, 1ER, 1BB

Notes: Michael Gettys enjoyed a 3 RBI game that pushed his RBI total to 12 over 19 games with the AZL Padres. Gettys, however, is still looking for his first professional home run. Walker Weickel made his first start with the AZL Padres after struggling mightily with the TinCaps. Weickel has been quite the disappointment for the Padres. After posting a 5.04 ERA over 23 starts with the TinCaps last year, Weickel has regressed this year as he has posted a 6.32 ERA with the TinCaps over 15 starts.
