Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-17-14 

The Storm and the TinCaps both had strong offensive games thanks to Mallex Smith and Adolfo Reina, respectively. The rest of the farm all played in close games.

Notes: Matt Wisler endured his worst start since June 28th. Wisler has had an up and down season with the Chihuahuas. After posting a 4.63 ERA in the month of June, Wisler owns a 6.08 ERA over 3 starts in the month of July. Reymond Fuentes has been on fire; he has multiple hits in each of his last 5 games, and he is hitting .462 over his last 10 games with 1 home run and 6 RBI’s.

Notes: Cory Spangenberg is now hitting .344 over 64 AB’s since returning to the Missions. Hunter Renfroe now has 9 RBI’s over his last 7 games. Renfroe has 3 home runs and 10 RBI’s over 58 AB’s with San Antonio. Austin Hedges showed off his great defense tonight as threw out the only runner who attempted to steal off of him.

Notes: Zach Eflin has now tossed 3 straight quality starts. Over those 3 starts, Eflin has pitched 18 innings and has only allowed 2 runs while striking out 10. Mallex Smith enjoyed one of his best games as a professional tonight. Smith fell just a triple shy of the cycle and went a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate. Smith is hitting .319 with Lake Elsinore after hitting .295 with Fort Wayne.

Gettys, the Padres’ 2nd round draft pick, is hitting .341 over his last 10 games, and .313 overall with the AZL Padres. After allowing 5 runs over 3 innings in his last start, Starling Ynfante rebounded and didn’t allow a single earned run through over 3 innings today.
