Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-18-13 

It was a rough night offensively for most of the farm as 4 different teams failed to score more than 3 runs. Tyson Ross continued to stretch out his arm in Tucson. Max Fried pitched very well for the TinCaps while A.J. Kirby-Jones continued to drive in runs at a prolific pace for the Storm.

Notes: Ross struggled a bit in his second start with the T-Pads. Over 2 starts, Ross has thrown 9 innings and yielded just 2 runs while striking out 6. It was a rough night offensively for the T-Pads; they were shutout, and they only had 4 hits with just 1 going for extra bases. Former Padre farmhand and 1st round draft pick Nick Schmidt pitched 1.2 scoreless innings for the Sky Sox tonight. He was traded for Padre closer Huston Street.

Over that span, Zavada has surrendered just 2 hits and has K’d 9 batters. Yeison Asencio continues to do well with the Missions. Following his 2-hit game tonight, Asencio is hitting .305 with San Antonio; he is hitting .333 over his last 10 games.

Notes: Jace Peterson has broken out of a nasty slump; Peterson is now on a 5 game  hitting streak right off the heels of a 5 game hitless streak. Peterson is hitting .287 over 341 AB’s with the Storm, Peterson has 6 home runs and 50 RBI. A.J. Kirby-Jones has been ridiculously hot over the past few days. Kirby-Jones has had multiple RBI’s in 6 of his last 7 games and has driven in 17 runs over his past 8 games. Over 10 games with Lake Elsinore, Kirby-Jones is hitting .325 with 3 home runs and 17 RBI.

Fried has been a little inconsistent this year; his ERA is 4.72 over his last 10 starts, but he’s allowed only 6 runs over his past 4 starts. On the year Fried has a 3.79 ERA over 16 starts and 78.1 innings with 75 strikeouts. Offensively, everyone in the starting 9, excluding Chris Burke, got at least 1 hit. 6 different hitters drove in at least 1 run.
