Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-20-13 

Keyvius Sampson continued his Double-A dominance as the Missions won 4-2. The Storm won a close game 9-7 due to the bats of Austin Hedges and Kyle Gaedele. Both Eugene and Fort Wayne enjoyed 1-run victories due to strong starting pitching. The AZL Padres had the day off.

Notes: Dean Anna continues to be extremely consistent at the plate. Anna is hitting .310 over his last 10 games and .337 on the year. Kevin Quackenbush tossed a scoreless inning with 2 K’s in this game. Hopefully Quackenbush can build on this appearance, as he still had not enjoyed back-to-back scoreless appearances at the Triple-A level.

Notes: Keyvius Sampson has been a beast since he joined the Missions. This is Sampson’s second start this year in which he’s thrown 7 scoreless innings with 12 K’s. Over 16 appearances and 15 starts with the Missions, Sampson has thrown 84.1 innings with 94 strikeouts; his ERA stands at 2.67. Cory Spangenberg has collected 2 hits in each of his last 2 games. Spangenberg raised his average to .252 with San Antonio.

Notes: Austin Hedges had his first extra-base hits since July 7th. Hedges raised his average to .275 and raised his RBI total to 24 over 204 AB’s, all of which are with the Storm. Kyle Gaedele only had 1 hit in this matchup, but it was a crucial one. Gaedele hit a game-tying 3 run home run in the top of the 7th. Jace Peterson increased his hitting streak to 7 games.

Notes: Bryan Rodriguez enjoyed his best start of the season by far in this game against Cedar Rapids. Rodriguez set a season high with 7 innings pitched, it was his first start in which he allowed no runs, and he struck out a season-high 5. Over 12 appearances and 8 starts, Rodriguez owns a 3.31 ERA.

Notes: The Emeralds had 10 hits, all of which were singles, in their 2-1 victory over the Canadians. Hunter Renfroe ended a modest 2 game hitless streak and drove in his 4th run of the year. Trae Santos has done well over his first 34 professional games. Santos is hitting .267 over his first 120 AB’s with 3 home runs and 11 RBI.
