Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-22-14

There were lots of great performances all over the farm tonight. From Casey McElroy’s 2 home run night to Matt Wisler’s excellent start, the pitching and/or hitting was great across almost every Padre farm team.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Casey McElroy

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Matt Wisler

El Paso Chihuahuas 2, Sacramento River Cats 3

Everth Cabrera – SS: 0-3, BB, K

Jedd Gyorko – 2B: 2-6, Run scored

Yonder Alonso – 1B: 1-6, K

Jonathan Galvez – LF: 0-5, BB, K

Taylor Lindsey – 3B: 2-5, RBI

Rocky Gale – C: 1-5, 2B

Matt Wisler – SP: 7.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 0BB, 7K

Notes: Matt Wisler turned in one heck of a start for the Chihuahuas tonight. In fact, it was arguably his best start in a Chihuahua uniform. It’s no secret that Wisler has struggled since being promoted to Triple-A, but he has shown flashes of dominance. Now, he must remain consistent.

San Antonio Missions 11, Corpus Christi Hooks 1

Cory Spangenberg – 2B: 2-5, 2 Run scored

Casey McElroy – 3B: 3-5, 2 HR(7), 5RBI, 3 Runs scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 3-4, HR(7), 2RBI, BB, 3 Runs scored

Rymer Liriano – DH: 0-4, BB, K

Austin Hedges – C: 1-3, 3B, 2RBI, BB, Run scored

Bryce Morrow – SP: 7.0 IP, 5H, 1ER, 4BB, HR Allowed

Notes: The Missions dominated the Hooks tonight. 6 members of the Missions lineup had multiple hits while 4 members of the Missions lineup drove in multiple runs. The pitching was great too as Bryce Morrow lowered his ERA to 1.59 over 51 innings pitched with the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, San Jose Giants 8

Mallex Smith – CF: 3-5, K, Run scored

Benji Gonzalez – SS: 2-4, 2 2B, RBI, BB

Dane Phillips – DH: 1-5, 2B, RBI, 3K

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-5, 2K

Luis Domoromo – 1B: 1-4, 3K, Run scored

Corey Adamson – RF: 2-3, BB

Bryan Rodriguez – SP: 5.1 IP, 7H, 6ER, 3BB, 3K (L, 5-6)

Notes: Dane Phillips is now on a 9 game hitting streak following this game. Phillips, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2012 draft, owns a .309/.382/.590 slash line over 139 AB’s with the Storm. Mallex Smith has produced back-to-back multi-hit games; Smith is hitting .348 over his last 10 games.

Fort Wayne TinCaps: DNP

Eugene Emeralds 2, Tri-City Dust Devils 3

Franchy Cordero – DH: 0-3, BB, 2K

Auston Bousfield – CF: 0-3, BB, K

Alex Dickerson – RF: 1-3, BB, Run scored

Jose Carlos Urena – LF: 1-3, BB

River Stevens – SS: 2-3, RBI

Zechariah Lemond – SP: 3.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 2K

Notes: Zechariah Lemond, who was drafted in the 4th round of the 2014 draft by the Padres, enjoyed his first professional scoreless start in tonight’s game against the Dust Devils. Lemond owns a 5.59 ERA over 9.2 innings pitched with the Ems. Alex Dickerson’s rehab continues to go well; he has 3 hits over 3 games with Eugene.

AZL Padres 20, AZL Brewers 3

Travis Jankowski – CF: 2-3, RBI, BB, 3 Runs scored

Daniel Bravo – SS: 4-6, 2B, HR(1), 4RBI, 3 Runs scored

Jordan Paroubeck – DH: 3-5, HR(2), 4RBI, K, 3 Runs scored

Michael Gettys – LF: 4-6, 3B, 3RBI, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Jonas Lantigua – 1B: 2-5, RBI, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Zach Risedorf – C: 2-6, 2B, 3RBI, 2K, 3 Runs scored

T.J. Weir – SP: 2.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 1K

Notes: There are so many positives in this game it’s hard to determine where to begin. The Padres 2nd round draft pick in 2014, Michael Gettys, was great tonight as he collected 4 hits, drove in 3 runs, and raised his average to .333 over 96 AB’s with the AZL Padres. Likewise, Jordan Paroubeck had a great game has he raised his average to .329 and drove in 4 runs. The pitching and defense were also quite solid for the AZL Padres. 20 runs is the most runs scored in a single game by any team in the Padres organization.
