Notes: Rymer Liriano made his Triple-A debut in this game and dominated. He had 2 extra base hits, 3 RBI’s, and scored 4 runs. Alex Castellanos also had an outstanding game. Castellanos isn’t having a great year with the Chihuahuas, but his performance in this game is arguably the best single game performance by any member of the Padres organization.

San Antonio Missions 5, Corpus Christi Hooks 4

Cory Spangenberg – CF: 3-4, 2RBI, Run scored

Casey McElroy – 3B: 1-4

Yeison Asencio – RF: 0-4

Notes: Since returning to the Missions from an injury, Cory Spangenberg has been outstanding. Spangenberg is currently on a 9 game hitting streak; he has 6 multi-hit games over that time, and he’s hitting .336 over 137 AB’s with the Missions. Spangenberg has played primarily 2B and CF with the Missions, but he knows how to play 3B as well.

Notes: Trae Turner has been nothing short of outstanding in his 9 games with the TinCaps. Turner has gone hitless just once in his TinCaps tenure, and he is hitting .444 over 36 AB’s. Turner also has only struck out 3 times while walking 5 times.

Eugene Emeralds 3, Tri-City Dust Devils 4

Walker Weickel – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 2R, 0ER, 3B, 5K

Notes: Walker Weickel pitched well again is short season ball. Weickel was quite simply awful with the TinCaps earlier this year as he posted a 6.32 ERA over 72.2 innings pitched with Fort Wayne. Another player doing well with Eugene after struggling in Fort Wayne is Franchy Cordero. Cordero is hitting .280 with 5 home runs and 18 RBI’s over 132 AB’s with the Ems.

Three weeks after I was born, Padre legend Tony Gwynn visited my hospital and handed out teddy bears to all the newborn children, including me. I have been a Padre fan ever since. Whether SD is in the midst of an exciting playoff run, or an uneventful off-season, I love following them and I love writing about them.
