Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-27-14

Led by a strong start from Matt Wisler, the Chihuahuas were the only team in the Padres organization to earn a victory tonight. Throughout the rest of the farm, the pitching struggled and the bats weren’t much better.

El Paso Chihuahuas 4, Fresno Grizzlies 3

Everth Cabrera – SS: 1-3, BB, 2 Runs scored

Jonathan Galvez – LF: 0-3, BB, K, Run scored

Notes: Jake Goebbert is now 6-7 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 4 RBI’s in 2 games since being sent down. Matt Wisler struck out 7 batters for the second consecutive start tonight. Wisler also has now thrown 2 straight quality starts; he’s been inconsistent at the Triple-A level, but he’s pitched well since a rough month of May.

Dickerson has hit well throughout his entire minor league career, and has hit well through his first 10 games as a member of the Padres organization.

Lake Elsinore Storm 3, Bakersfield Blaze 6

Mallex Smith – RF: 0-3, 2BB, 2K

Notes: Tonight’s starter Elliot Morris made his second start with the Storm since being acquired from the Angels as part of a package for Huston Street. Morris’ start was very similar to Rafael De Paula’s start last night. Both pitchers went 6 innings and the only hits off of both pitchers were home runs.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 2, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5

Ronald Herrera – SP: 4.2 IP, 7H, 3ER, 1BB, 2K (L, 5-6)

Notes: It was a tough game for the TinCaps. Starting pitcher Ronald Herrera struggled as he allowed 8 base runners and 3 runs across less than 5 innings pitched. The offense wasn’t much better; they managed to score 2 runs, but no one had an RBI, both runs were unearned. One bright spot was the continued impressive play of Trea Turner who smacked his first extra base hit since July 20th.
