Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-27-13

The two short-season affiliates, the AZL Padres and the Emeralds, both won due to nice offensive performances. Both the Missions and the Storm only got 4 hits. However, the Missions won a tight game 2-1 while the Storm were blown out 10-0. Matt Andriese tossed a quality start for the T-Pads, but Tucson still lost 4-2.

Hitting Player of the Day: Hunter Renfroe/Trae Santos

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Donn Roach

Tucson Padres 2, Salt Lake Bees 4

Jaff Decker-RF: 0-4, BB

Dan Robertson-CF: 0-4, K

Dean Anna-2B: 2-2, 3BB, Run scored

Ben Francisco-LF: 1-5, 2K

Brandon Allen-1B: 2-5, RBI, Run scored

Eddy Rodriguez-C: 3-5, 3 2B, RBI, K

Matt Andriese-SP: 6.0 IP, 4H, 3R, 1ER, BB, 2K

Kevin Quackenbush-RP: 1.0 IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 0K

Notes: Matt Andriese threw his first quality start since July 8th. Prior to tonight’s start, Andriese had allowed 11 runs in 8.2 innings. Hopefully Andriese can build off the success he experienced tonight, and put up some good Triple-A numbers. Kevin Quackenbush has now gone 3 straight appearances without allowing a run. Quackenbush did not start well at the Triple-A level, but he seems to be finding his groove.

San Antonio Missions 2, Frisco RoughRiders 1

Rico Noel-CF: 2-4

Reymond Fuentes-LF: 0-4

Tommy Medica-1B: 1-3, HR(12), RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

Johan Limonta-1B: 1-4, 2B, RBI

Yeison Asencio-RF: 0-3

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 0-3

Donn Roach-SP: 5.0 IP, H, 0R, BB, 2K

Notes: Roach was very efficient in today’s game. He only threw 60 pitches across 5 innings in which he allowed just 2 base runners. Despite a few rough starts, Roach owns a 2.91 ERA over his last 10 starts, and a 3.76 ERA on the year. If Roach can remain consistent, it is very plausible that he will see some time with the big league club later this year. In a game with 6 hits combined between the two teams, Tommy Medica and Johan Limonta shined. Medica tied the game at 1 with a solo shot in the 7th, and Limonta hit a walk-off double in the 10th.

Lake Elsinore Storm 0, Bakersfield Blaze 10

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-3

Jace Peterson-SS: 0-3

A.J. Kirby-Jones-1B: 0-4, 3K

Jeremy Baltz-LF: 1-3, BB, K

Austin Hedges-C: 1-3, 2B, K

Lee Orr-1B: 0-3, 2K

James Needy-SP: 5.0 IP, 7H, 5ER, 0BB, 6K (L, 6-4)

Notes: Although you wouldn’t guess it based on the final score, this game was a pitcher’s duel until the 6th. After 5 innings, the score was tied at 0, but the Blaze scored 7 runs in the 6th, and the Storm were never able to respond. Austin Hedges hit his 21st double of the year while throwing out two runners attempting to steal. The Storm only had 4 hits all game.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 2, Dayton Dragons 5

Mallex Smith-CF: 0-3, BB

Tyler Stubblefield-SS: 1-4, 2B, Run scored

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 1-3, RBI, BB

Luis Domoromo-LF: 2-4, 2B, Run scored

Chris Burke-DH: 1-4, K

Rodney Daal-C: 1-3, 2B

Matthew Shepherd-SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 3BB, 3K (L, 4-3)

Notes: Luis Domoromo has been on fire recently. Domoromo is on a 3 game multi-hit streak and is hitting .405 over his last 10 games. Domoromo has raised his average to .283 over 106 AB’s with Fort Wayne. Maxx Tissenbaum looks to be coming out of a bad funk. He’s hit safely over his past 2 games, but he’s gone hitless in 6 of his past 10 games.

Eugene Emeralds 5, Vancouver Canadians 2

Ronnie Richardson-CF: 2-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Henry Charles-LF: 1-2, 2 Runs scored

Hunter Renfroe-RF: 2-4, 2B, 2RBI, 2 Runs scored

Trae Santos-1B: 2-4, 2 2B, 3RBI, 2K

Fernando Perez-3B: 0-4, K

Wynton Bernard-DH: 1-3, K

Erik Schoenrock-SP: 3.0 IP, 3H, 2ER, 2BB, 6K

Notes: Hunter Renfroe and Trae Santos have combined to make a formidable 1-2 punch in the heart of the Emeralds’ lineup. They were responsible for driving in all 5 runs tonight, and over the past 4 days they’ve combined to drive in 8 runs. They both have 3 home runs on the year; Renfroe is hitting .333 with 8 RBI over 66 AB’s and Santos is hitting .280 with 15 RBI over 143 AB’s.

AZL Padres 10, AZL Mariners 2

Rod Boykin-LF: 2-5, 2K, Run scored

Josh VanMeter-SS: 1-5, 2RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Dustin Peterson-3B: 0-4, 2K

Jose Urena-DH: 2-4, K, Run scored

Franmil Reyes-RF: 1-3, 2B, 2RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Jose Ruiz-C: 2-3, 2B, RBI, K, Run scored

Jake Bauers-1B: 1-2, HR(1), 3RBI, BB, K, 2 Runs scored

Payton Baskette-SP: 4.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 4K

Notes: Jose Ruiz is finally finding his stride at the plate after struggling at the beginning of this season. Ruiz has 4 hits over his last 2 games and has driven in 11 runs over his last 10 games. Jake Bauers ended a 4 game hitless streak by hitting his first professional home run. Bauers has not done well with the AZL Pads; he is hitting .177 over 79 AB’s.
