Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-3-13

The entire farm system tonight was blessed with outstanding pitching; every starter went at least 5 innings and allowed 2 or less earned runs. The T-Pads, Missions, and Storm all won as each of their starting pitchers (Andriese, Wisler, and Hancock respectively) enjoyed a scoreless outing. 2013 draft picks Dustin Peterson and Bryan Verbitsky also enjoyed successful nights. Peterson collected the first 3-hit game of his career and Verbitsky threw 5 innings with a career high 8 strikeouts.

The only area Hancock has not excelled in is strikeouts, as he owns just 5 strikeouts over his 3 starts. Jace Peterson continued his impressive power displays at the plate as he hit his 3rd home run over his past 10 games and 6th home run of the year. Prior to 2013, Peterson didn’t even have 6 home runs in his career. Jeremy Baltz has been hitting the cover off the ball since his promotion to Lake Elsinore. Notes: While Everth Cabrera has managed to stay healthy throughout his rehab, the results have left a lot to be desired. Following tonight’s game, Everth is 0-7 with 5 strikeouts over the 2 rehab games he’s played. Tonight’s start by Zach Eflin was the 11th in a row in which he pitched at least 5 innings with 2 or less earned runs. However, Eflin’s defense did him no favors as 2 unearned runs crossed the plate. Eflin owns a 3.30 ERA across 71 innings pitched on the year.

Notes: Dustin Peterson has adapted nicely to pro ball; he’s hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games and collected his first 3 hit game tonight. Peterson raised his average to .308 and drove in his 2nd and 3rd RBI’s of the year. Jose Ruiz broke a 4 game hitless drought; he has struggled greatly so far this year as this game brought his average up to .143.
