Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-4-13

Not a lot went right for the Emeralds in their 10-3 defeat. Max Fried was the lone bright spot for the TinCaps as Fort Wayne lost 6-0. Jeremy Baltz has been putting up video game numbers since his promotion to Lake Elsinore. Despite Baltz’s presence the Storm lost 8-3. Led by Donn Roach, the Missions were able to hold the Drillers to just 2 runs in their 4-2 victory. Jaff Decker went yard and drove in 3 runs as the T-Pads won 6-3.

Clay Zavada-RP: 0.2 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB (H, 1)

Notes: Reymond Fuentes made his first start since he went on the DL. He last started on June 12th. Prior to his injury Fuentes was hitting .441 over his last 10 games. Tonight he collected a hit and an RBI. Fuentes has experienced a complete turn around following his dismal 2012 year. Following tonight’s game he is hitting .329 on the year. Donn Roach turned in his best start since May 29th. He has faced some struggles this season; hopefully he’s able to build on this start moving forward. Clay Zavada made his first appearance with the Missions and did well as he retired the only 2 batters he faced.

Travis Jankowski-CF: 0-4, BB, K, Run scored

Notes: In a game where the Storm could only muster 4 hits, Jeremy Baltz stayed hot. Baltz now owns a 14 game hitting streak; with the Storm, Baltz is hitting .404 over 57 AB’s. Baltz has collected multiple hits in 8 of the last 10 games he’s played in. On the year Baltz is hitting .302 with 8 home runs and 48 RBI over 225 AB’s split between Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore.

Max Fried-SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 2R, ER, BB, 8K, HR Allowed (L, 3-3)

Notes: Despite receiving the loss tonight, Max Fried pitched very well for the second start in a row. Over his last 2 starts Fried has pitched 10 innings while allowing just 5 hits and 1 earned run. He has struck out 11 over that span. Tonight’s start lowered Fried’s ERA to 3.62 over 14 starts and 69.2 innings pitched. He has 66 strikeouts on the year.

Eugene Emeralds 3, Spokane Indians 10

Three weeks after I was born, Padre legend Tony Gwynn visited my hospital and handed out teddy bears to all the newborn children, including me. I have been a Padre fan ever since. Whether SD is in the midst of an exciting playoff run, or an uneventful off-season, I love following them and I love writing about them.
