Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-10-14

The Storm were the only team to win on the farm tonight as they have now scored 7 runs in back-to-back games. Trea Turner’s phenomenal start continued with Fort Wayne, and fellow 2014 draft pick Michael Gettys had a great night with the AZL Padres.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Trea Turner

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Colin Rea

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Salt Lake Bees 7

Jace Peterson – 3B: 2-5, 2 2B, K, Run scored

Tyler Greene – SS: 1-4, 2B, RBI, Run scored

Jake Goebbert – DH: 1-3, RBI, BB, K

Cody Decker – 1B: 0-4, 3K

Taylor Lindsey – 2B: 0-3, BB

Rocky Gale – C: 3-4, Run scored

Chris Smith – SP: 5.1 IP, 4H, 4ER, 2BB, 6K, HR Allowed

Notes: Jace Peterson hit 2 doubles tonight and has now hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games. However, Peterson is hitting just .243 over that time with 0 home runs and 1 RBI. Jake Goebbert has now driven in a run each of his last 5 games. Goebbert has 10 RBI’s over his last 7 games, and is hitting .417 over his last 10 games.

San Antonio Missions 1, NW Arkansas Naturals 5

Cory Spangenberg – 2B: 2-4

Travis Jankowski – CF: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – RF: 1-4

Hunter Renfroe – LF: 2-4, 2B, 2K

Austin Hedges – C: 1-4, K

Casey McElroy – 3B: 0-3, 2K

James Needy – SP: 6.0 IP, 6H, 3ER, 4BB, 1K (L, 8-4)

Notes: Cory Spangenberg increased his hitting streak to 5 games following a 2-hit effort tonight. Spangenberg is hitting .300 over his last 10 games and .335 over 206 AB’s with San Antonio. Hunter Renfroe has gotten off to a bit of a slow start in August as he is hitting .257 with 0 home runs and 1 RBI over 35 AB’s in the month.

Lake Elsinore Storm 7, High Desert Mavericks 1

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB

Alberth Martinez – RF: 0-3, RBI, K

Dane Phillips – DH: 1-4, HR(8), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 1-3, Run scored

Luis Domoromo – 1B: 2-3, 2 2B, 2RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Jose Rondon – SS: 0-1, 2BB, Run scored

Colin Rea – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 3K (W, 10-6)

Notes: Jose Rondon’s 10 game hitting streak came to an end tonight, but he still managed to reach base twice via 2 walks. Dane Phillips hit a home run in this game giving him 8 with Lake Elsinore and 10 on the year. Phillips is hitting .299 over 344 AB’s split between Fort Wayne and Lake Elsinore.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 6, Lake County Captains 12

Trea Turner – DH: 3-5, HR(3), RBI, 2K, 2 Runs scored

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 2-5, RBI, 3K

Fernando Perez – 2B: 2-5, RBI, 3K

Franmil Reyes – RF: 0-5, K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 0-3, BB, K, Run scored

Nick Schulz – LF: 1-3, 2B, 2RBI, Run scored

Jeffery Enloe – SP: 4.0 IP, 8H, 5ER, 1BB, 2K (L, 4-4)

Notes: Trea Turner added on to his torrid start with the TinCaps by hitting his 3rd home run and bringing his average up to .431 over 109 AB’s with the TinCaps. Sustaining an average above .400 over more than 100 AB’s in the minor leagues is flat out amazing, regardless of the level. Dustin Peterson snapped a 4 game hitless streak tonight as he looks to get back on track after a mediocre July.

Eugene Emeralds 3, Boise Hawks 17

River Stevens – SS: 1-4, K

Jalen Goree – 2B: 1-4, HR(4), RBI, Run scored

Franchy Cordero – DH: 1-3, RBI

Edwin Moreno – CF: 2-4, 2 2B, K

Yale Rosen – LF: 1-3, BB, K, Run scored

Trae Santos – 1B: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB

Aaron Cressley – SP: 1.0 IP, 4H, 5ER, 2BB, 2K (L, 1-1)

Notes: Outside of Jalen Goree’s 4th home run and a 2-hit game from Edwin Moreno, there was nothing positive about this game for Eugene. The Ems went 1-for-9 with RISP, struck out 12 times, committed 3 errors, and allowed 17 runs. They just endured a good, old-fashioned butt whoopin.

AZL Padres 6, AZL Athletics 7

Ruddy Giron – SS: 2-5, Run scored

Daniel Bravo – 2B: 1-5, 2K, run scored

Michael Gettys – CF: 4-5, 2B, 3B, 2RBI, 2 Runs scored

Carlos Belen – 3B: 1-3, BB, K, Run scored

Jonas Lantigua – 1B: 0-5, K

Mason Smith – RF: 2-3, 2RBI, Run scored

Jaimito Lebron – SP: 4.0 IP, 9H, 6R, 3ER, 1BB, 3K

Notes: Michael Gettys, the Padres’ 2nd round pick in 2014, fell a home run shy of the cycle tonight. His 4 hits raised his average to .325 over 157 AB’s with the AZL Padres.

Three weeks after I was born, Padre legend Tony Gwynn visited my hospital and handed out teddy bears to all the newborn children, including me. I have been a Padre fan ever since.
