Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-11-13 

3 different farm teams enjoyed 1-run victories tonight. Hunter Renfroe and Gabriel Quintana provided a solid 1-2 punch in the middle of the TinCap lineup. Renfroe had 2 hits, including a home run, while Quintana was a perfect 4-4 in the TinCaps’ 4-3 victory. Starter Johnny Barbato and Payton Baskette dominated for the Storm and the AZL Padres, respectively.

Notes: Anthony Bass got it done with his bat and his arm tonight. Bass had his best start at the Triple-A level this season, and he also had 2 hits and an RBI. Dan Robertson was quite the catalyst tonight; he had 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Robertson had enjoyed multiple hits in each of his last 3 games. He’s hitting .353 over his last 10 games and .284 over 401 AB’s with the T-Pads.

Notes: The starting 9 did nothing to help Donn Roach win tonight. Roach received the loss despite allowing 0 earned runs; the Missions only contributed 2 hits offensively while committing 4 errors. Austin Hedges managed to contribute both offensively and defensively. He had 1 of the 2 hits, and he threw a runner out who was trying to steal 2nd.

Notes: A.J. Kirby-Jones is the reason the Storm won tonight’s game. Kirby-Jones had a decisive 2-run home run in the 4th inning. Starter Johnny Barbato enjoyed one of the best starts of his career. He only allowed 4 base runners over 5 innings while striking out 6. Barbato has been progressively better in each of his 3 starts.

Notes: Zach Eflin’s ERA keeps on falling. Following tonight’s start, Eflin’s ERA sits at 2.67. While strikeouts have not been a big part of Eflin’s game, he has been very effective; he routinely goes at least 5 innings with 2 earned runs or less. Hunter Renfroe hasn’t missed a beat following his promotion to the Midwest League. In 2 games Renfroe is hitting: .500, 2B, HR, 2RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored. Between Eugene and Fort Wayne, Renfroe is hitting .321 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI.

Notes: Erik Schoenrock enjoyed another solid start. Schoenrock has been very effective all year with Eugene. Over 11 starts Schoenrock has thrown 48.1 innings with 45 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.79. The offense came alive late in this game; after being down 2-0 in the bottom of the 8th, the Ems scored 1 run in the 8th and 1 run in the 9th to tie the game. Malquiel Brito drove in the game-tying run. However, the offense stalled after that as the Emeralds lost 4-2 in 13 innings.

Notes: Payton Baskette has now made 4 starts on the season. Baskette hasn’t allowed a run in 3 of those starts. Before joining the rotation, Baskette made 10 appearances as a reliever; he boasted a 0.87 ERA over 20.2 innings in relief. Overall Baskette has thrown 37 innings with an ERA of 1.46 an 40 strikeouts.
