Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-12-14

The Chihuahuas and the TinCaps earned victories tonight due to strong starts from Juan Oramas and Ronald Herrera, respectively. The pitching was lacking throughout the rest of the farm as the Storm, Emeralds, and AZL Padres combined to allow 31 runs.

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Juan Pablo Oramas

El Paso Chihuahuas 8, Nashville Sounds 2

Alex Castellanos – RF: 1-5, 3B, RBI, 2K, Run scored

Juan Pablo Oramas – SP: 5.1 IP, 7H, 2ER, 1BB, 4K, HR Allowed (W, 6-6)

Notes: Taylor Lindsey fell a triple shy of the cycle tonight. Lindsey, who was acquired by the Padres for Huston Street, has hit .226 with 2 home runs and 13 RBI’s over 84 AB’s with the Chihuahuas. Jace Peterson has hit safely in 8 of his last 10 games; Peterson has been in a bit of a slump since last being sent down from San Diego; he owns a .243 average over 9 August games.

San Antonio Missions: DNP

Lake Elsinore Storm 7, Inland Empire 66ers 15

Mallex Smith – CF: 2-3, RBI, 2BB, 2 Run scored

Alberth Martinez – RF: 2-5, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 Runs scored

Benji Gonzalez – 2B: 2-4, 2B, 2RBI

Dane Phillips – DH: 0-3, BB

Jeremy Baltz – LF: 2-5, RBI, K

Jose Rondon – SS: 1-4, 2B, Run scored

Rafael De Paula – SP: 2.2 IP, 6H, 6ER, 2BB, 3K (L, 2-2)

Notes: Rafael De Paula has endured 3 mediocre starts in a row. De Paula owns a 7.20 ERA over 4 starts since being acquired by the Padres for Chase Headley. Mallex Smith continued his strong 2014 with a 2-hit performance tonight. Since being promoted to Lake Elsinore, Smith has hit 5 home runs over 167 AB’s. His previous career high in home runs was 4, which he hit over 424 AB’s with Fort Wayne last year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, Lansing Lugnuts 2

Trea Turner – SS: 2-4, BB, K

Dustin Peterson – 3B: 2-5, Run scored

Fernando Perez – DH: 1-5, K

Franmil Reyes – RF: 1-5, 2K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 1-5, 2B, RBI

Ronnie Richardson – CF: 2-4, HR(2), RBI, 2K, Run scored

Henry Charles – LF: 2-4, HR(5), RBI, K, Run scored

Ronald Herrera – SP: 5.0 IP, 7H, 2ER, 0BB, 2K (W, 6-7)

Notes: Trea Turner is enjoying arguably the best second half of any member of the Padres organization. Since the ASB, Turner is hitting .434 with 3 home runs and 14 RBI’s over 113 AB’s. Dustin Peterson has now smacked 2 hits in back-to-back games. Peterson battled with a major slump throughout all of July – hopefully these 2-hit games are a sign that he’s breaking out.

Eugene Emeralds 8, Boise Hawks 9

Auston Bousfield – CF: 2-4, RBI, BB, K, 3 Runs scored

Franchy Cordero – SS: 1-5, 2K, Run scored

Trae Santos – 1B: 3-5, 2 2B, 4RBI, K

Walker Weickel – SP: 4.2 IP, 9H, 7R, 5ER, 2BB, 2K

Notes: After a highly disappointing 2013, Walker Weickel has unfortunately taken a step backwards in 2014. Weickel allowed 9 hits for the 3rd time in 5 starts with the Emeralds tonight; over those 5 starts, Weickel is 0-2 with a 5.92 ERA. Following a 4 RBI game tonight, Trae Santos has driven in 7 runs over his last 3 games.

AZL Padres 2, AZL D-Backs 7

Ruddy Giron – SS: 0-4

Luis Urias – 3B: 1-4, K, Run scored

Michael Gettys – CF: 0-4, 3K

Cam Stewart – SP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 3ER, 3BB, 1K (L, 0-2)

Kyle McGrath – RP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 0K

Notes: The AZL Padres were held without an extra-base hit tonight against the AZL D-Backs. The pitching wasn’t much better as Kyle McGrath was the only pitcher to have a scoreless outing today. The AZL Padres record fell to 12-30 with tonight’s loss.
