Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-22-14

It was a good night offensively on the farm as the Chihuahuas, Missions, TinCaps, and AZL Padres all scored at least 5 runs. Out of that group, the TinCaps were the only team to lose.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Trea Turner/Nick Schulz

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Rafael De Paula

El Paso Chihuahuas 5, Oklahoma City RedHawks 4

Jace Peterson – 3B: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K

Tyler Greene – SS: 3-4, 2B, 2RBI, K, Run scored

Yeison Asencio – LF: 1-5, RBI

Cody Decker – 1B: 1-3, HR(22), RBI, BB, Run scored

Jason Lane – SP: 7.0 IP, 7H, 4R, 3ER, 1BB, 2K, HR Allowed

Notes: Cody Decker, who’s in a bit of a slump, hit his 22nd home run of the season tonight. Decker, a fan favorite, has been very productive with the Chihuahuas this season. Jace Peterson now has 3 hits over 2 games since he was sent down, again.

San Antonio Missions 11, Frisco RoughRiders 6

Cory Spangenberg – CF: 1-5, 3B, RBI, K

Casey McElroy – 2B: 1-5, 2K

Alex Dickerson – RF: 4-5, RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Hunter Renfroe – CF: 2-5, 2B, K, 2 Runs scored

Robert Kral – C: 2-4, HR(5), 2RBI, BB, 3 Runs scored

Lee Orr – DH: 2-5, 2B, 3RBI, 3K, Run scored

Adam Buschini – SS: 1-2, HR(9), 3RBI, BB, 2 Runs scored

Bryce Morrow – SP: 5.0 IP, 3H, 4ER, 3BB, 2K (W, 4-4)

Notes: Cory Spangenberg is now on a 15 game hitting streak. Spangenberg is hitting .302 over his last 10 games, and .329 over 249 AB’s with the Missions. Over his first 25 games with the Missions, Alex Dickerson has been outstanding. Following his 4 hit game tonight, Dickerson has a slashline of .317/.349/.490 with 3 home runs and 16 RBI’s.

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Bakersfield Blaze 3

Mallex Smith – CF: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Jose Rondon – SS: 2-5, K

Benji Gonzalez – 2B: 2-4

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 0-4, 2K

Luis Domoromo – 1B: 2-4, RBI

Duanel Jones – DH: 1-4, 2B, 3K

Rafael De Paula – SP: 6.0 IP, 5H, 3R, 2ER, 1BB, 7K (L, 2-3)

Notes: Rafael De Paula tossed his first quality start since he joined the Storm on July 26th. De Paula now owns a 6.46 ERA over 6 starts with Lake Elsinore. Jose Rondon enjoyed his first 2-hit game since August 14th; Rondon is hitting just .229 over his last 10 games, but he is hitting .320 over 409 AB’s this year.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 7, Lake County Captains 8

Trea Turner – SS: 3-5, HR(4), 2RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Ronnie Richardson – CF: 1-4, 2B, K

Fernando Perez – DH: 3-4, 2 HR(14), 3RBI, 3 Runs scored

Jake Bauers – 1B: 0-5, Run scored

Nick Schulz – RF: 4-5, 2B, HR(6), 2RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Henry Charles – CF: 1-4, 2K

Ronald Herrera – SP: 2.1 IP, 7H, 5ER, 1BB, 1K, HR Allowed

Notes: Trea Turner has been absolutely outstanding since being called up to Fort Wayne. Over 36 games with the TinCaps, Turner is hitting .395/.463/.549 with 4 home runs and 19 RBI’s. He’s also stolen 10 bases and has only been caught 3 times. For a guy who wasn’t touted for having a great bat coming into the 2014 draft, Turner has exceeded expectations in every way at the plate so far.

Eugene Emeralds 1, Everett AquaSox 6

Auston Bousfield – CF: 1-4, 2B, K, Run scored

Joseph Epperson – 3B: 1-3, 2B, RBI, K

Marcus Davis – 1B: 0-4

Nick Torres – RF: 2-4, K

Trae Santos – DH: 0-3, K

Michael Miller – C: 2-4, 2K

Payton Baskette – SP: 4.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 1BB, 6K

Notes: For the second straight start, Walker Weickel allowed 5 earned runs. This season has been absolute train wreck for Weickel; after going 1-8 with a 6.32 ERA over 15 starts with Fort Wayne, Weickel is 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA across 6 starts with Eugene. Weickel’s strikeout numbers are awful, opposing hitters are hitting .307 against him, his WHIP is 1.76 over 107.2 innings pitched. There have been 0 positives for the 2012 comp A draft pick.

AZL Padres 7, AZL Dodgers 6

Luis Urias – 3B: 1-5, Run scored

Ryan Jackson – DH: 0-4, K

Michael Gettys – CF: 0-5, 3K

Jonas Lantigua – 1B: 2-4, 2B, HR(4), RBI, BB, K, Run scored

Jhonatan Pena – RF: 3-5, 2B, K, 2 Runs scored

Daniel Bravo – 2B: 3-4, 3B, 2RBI, 2 Runs scored

Jaimito Lebron – SP: 3.1 IP, 4H, 2ER, 3BB, 3K, HR Allowed

Notes: Ryan Jackson made his rehab appearance since hitting the DL all the way back in April. Jackson, who was acquired from the Astros for Jesus Guzman, didn’t get a hit in his first game back in what is essentially a lost season.
