Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-23-14

Trea Turner continued his torrid play, but it was not enough as the TinCaps fell 6-5. The Storm, led by home runs from Duanel Jones, Jeremy Baltz, and Luis Domoromo, scored 8 runs in their victory against the Blaze.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Duanel Jones

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Michael Kelly

El Paso Chihuahuas 2, Oklahoma City RedHawks 10

Jace Peterson – 3B: 2-4, K, Run scored

Taylor Lindsey – 2B: 1-3, BB, K, Run scored

Tyler Greene – SS: 1-4, 2B, 2RBI, 2K

Jeff Francoeur – RF: 0-4

Yeison Asencio – LF: 0-4, 3K

Rocky Gale – C: 2-3

Robbie Erlin – SP: 4.2 IP, 14H, 8R, 7ER, 0BB, 5K, HR Allowed (L, 0-1)

Notes: Robbie Erlin was far from impressive in his first career start with the Chihuahuas. Historically, Erlin has not done well at the Triple-A level; last year he owned a 5.07 ERA over 20 starts with the Tucson Padres. He proceeded to perform much better in the big leagues so like always, take PCL numbers with a grain of salt.

San Antonio Missions 3, Corpus Christi Hooks 2

Cory Spangenberg – CF: 2-4, 3B, RBI, 2 Runs scored

Casey McElroy – 2B: 0-3, RBI, K

Jason Hagerty – 1B: 0-3, BB

Hunter Renfroe – RF: 1-3, BB

Robert Kral – DH: 0-1, RBI, 2BB, K

Austin Hedges – C: 0-3

Justin Hancock – SP: 6.2 IP, 8H, 2ER, 0BB, 3K, 2 HR Allowed (W, 2-2)

Notes: The Missions managed to win despite being held to only 4 hits. Cory Spangenberg increased his hitting streak to 16 with a 2 hit game tonight. Spangenberg has been very impressive in the pitcher friendly Texas League this season; Spangenberg is 1 of only 3 players batting over .300 in the Texas League.

Lake Elsinore Storm 8, Bakersfield Blaze 5

Mallex Smith – CF: 2-4, 2B, RBI, BB, Run scored

Jeremy Baltz – LF: 2-5, HR(9), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 1-4, RBI, K, Run scored

Luis Domoromo – 1B: 2-4, HR(10), 2RBI, K, 2 Runs scored

Duanel Jones – DH: 2-3, 2B, HR(10), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Jose Rondon – SS: 1-4, 2B, Run scored

Elliot Morris – SP: 6.0 IP, 7H, 4ER, 1BB, 5K, HR Allowed (W, 6-6)

Notes: Mallex Smith has been swinging a hot bat for the Storm; Smith is hitting .378 with 7 walks over his last 10 games. Smith stole his 39th base of the season with Lake Elsinore tonight giving him a whopping 87 combined between the Storm and the TinCaps. An interesting fact about this game: both team names end with a letter other than S.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 5, Lake County Captains 6

Trea Turner – SS: 1-2, 2BB, K, Run scored

Fernando Perez – 2B: 0-4, RBI, BB, 2K

Franmil Reyes – DH: 1-5, 2B, RBI

Nick Schulz – RF: 0-4, K

John Nester – C: 2-3, BB, Run scored

Henry Charles – LF: 2-4, HR(8), 2RBI, K, Run scored

Jimmy Brasoban – SP: 4.0 IP, 5H, 4R, 3ER, 1BB, 6K

Notes: Trea Turner had another solid game; Turner reached base 3 times, increased his hitting streak to 7, and stole 3 bases which brought his total to 22 on the year. Jake Bauers’ July slump has continued into the month of August; after hitting .221 over 104 AB’s in July, Bauers is hitting .231 over 78 AB’s in August.

Eugene Emeralds 2, Everett AquaSox 0

Mitchell Morales – SS: 1-4, Run scored

Auston Bousfield – CF: 2-4, HR(3), RBI, Run scored

Nick Torres – DH: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K

Marcus Davis – 1B: 0-4, K

Edwin Moreno – RF: 2-4, 2B

Felipe Blanco – 2B: 1-3, 2K

Michael Kelly – SP: 6.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 1BB, 9K (W, 7-4)

Colby Blueberg – RP: 2.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 3K

Notes: Michael Kelly turned in a nearly perfect start for Eugene tonight. Kelly allowed just 1 walk over 6 innings pitched while striking out 9 and lowering his ERA to 4.01 over 14 appearances (13 starts) with the Emeralds. While the bullpen couldn’t preserve the no-hitter, it doesn’t tarnish what was an outstanding night for Michael Kelly.

Game 1: AZL Padres 7, AZL Reds 1

Ryan Jackson – SS: 1-3, K

Luis Urias – 3B: 0-2, BB, K, Run scored

Michael Gettys – CF: 1-3

Jonas Lantigua – 1B: 0-2, BB, K

Rodney Daal – DH: 3-3, HR(2), 2RBI, 2 Runs scored

Rod Boykin – LF: 1-3, K, Run scored

Troy Patton – SP: 1.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 3K

T.J. Weir – RP: 2.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, 1K (W, 2-0)

Game 2: AZL Padres 1, AZL Reds 3

Luis Urias – 3B: 0-3

Daniel Bravo – 2B: 0-3, K, Run scored

Rod Boykin – CF: 0-2, BB, 2K

Michael Gettys – DH: 0-3, K

Jhonatan Pena – LF: 1-3, RBI, 2K

Zach Risedorf – C: 0-3

Notes: Ryan Jackson and Troy Patton continued their rehabs with the AZL Padres. The AZL Padres split the double header; in the first game the offense was strong and it led to 7 runs scored. It was a different story in the second game as the AZL Padres were held to just 1 hit.
