Round Up Image 234

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Kyle Gaedele

Pitching Player of the Day: Burch Smith

Tucson Padres 1, Reno Aces 2

Jaff Decker-CF: 0-4, 2K

Dan Robertson-RF: 1-3, BB, K

Dean Anna-2B: 1-4, 2K

Jonathan Galvez-LF: 1-3, BB, Run scored

Gregorio Petit-SS: 2-4, RBI

Scott Moore-3B: 1-3, K

Burch Smith-SP: 7.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 0BB, 10K

Notes: Burch Smith turned in arguably the best start by a T-Pad all year, and he still didn’t collect a victory. Smith now has 65 strikeouts over 61 innings pitched with Tucson. There’s no doubt he’s a strikeout pitcher as he has more strikeouts than innings pitched at every level he’s played in this year, including the big leagues.

San Antonio Missions 9, Midland RockHounds 10

Rico Noel-CF: 0-4, BB, 2K, Run scored

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 2-5, 2 Runs scored

Johan Limonta-1B: 1-4, Run scored

Adam Bushini-3B: 1-5, HR(8), 4RBI, K, Run scored

Rocky Gale-C: 3-5, RBI

Jeudy Valdez-SS: 2-5, HR(10), RBI, Run scored

Eddie Bonine-SP: 6.0 IP, 10H, 5ER, BB, 2 HR Allowed

Clay Zavada-RP: 1.0 IP, 2H, 4R, 3ER, BB (L, 0-2)

Notes: Clay Zavada had a terrible day in relief as he blew a 3 run Missions lead. Zavada has now allowed at least 1 run in each of his last 3 outings. Eddie Bonine endured his worst start since July 12th. Bonine’s ERA rose to 3.76 over 11 starts and 69.1 innings pitched with the Missions.

Lake Elsinore Storm 11, Lancaster JetHawks 9

Bridger Hunt-SS: 2-5

Corey Adamson-RF: 0-5

Robert Kral-C: 1-4, BB, 2 Runs scored

Jeremy Baltz-DH: 3-5, 2B, HR(8), 3RBI, 2 Runs scored

Kyle Gaedele-CF: 4-5, 2 HR(13), 3RBI, K, 3 Runs scored

Duanel Jones-3B: 2-5, HR(7), 2RBI, 2 Runs scored

Frank Garces-SP: 3.0 IP, 7H, 7ER, 4BB, K

Notes: Kyle Gaedele, Jeremy Baltz, and Duanel Jones all hit home runs and carried the team offensively. They combined for 9 hits and 8 RBI. Frank Garces’ disappointing August continued. Over 6 August starts, Garces is 0-4 with and ugly 11.19 ERA. The only silver lining is that he does have 23 strikeouts over 23.1 innings this month.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 0, West Michigan Whitecaps 2

Reynaldo Bruguera-DH: 0-4

Maxx Tissenbaum-2B: 1-3

Alberth Martinez-CF: 0-2, 2BB

Gabriel Quintana-3B: 0-3, 2K

Hunter Renfroe-RF: 0-4, 2K

Rodney Daal-C: 1-3, K

Bryan Rodriguez-SP: 6.0 IP, 7H, 2R, ER, 4BB, 5K

Notes: This was a tough game for the TinCaps. They only had 3 hits, and they went 0-for-5 with RISP. Bryan Rodriguez was handed the loss despite a quality start. Rodriguez has quietly been very solid for Fort Wayne. While Rodriguez does have a 2-8 record, he owns a 3.23 ERA over 83.2 innings pitched this year. 3 of his past 4 starts have quality starts.

Eugene Emeralds 2, Hillsboro Hops 9

Wynton Bernard-CF: 2-5, K

Henry Charles-DH: 0-4

Donavan Tate-RF: 1-2, 2B

Fernando Perez-3B: 1-4, 3B, RBI, K, Run scored

Michael Bass-2B: 2-3, BB, K

Felipe Blanco-SS: 1-2, K

Bryan Verbitsky-SP: 2.1 IP, 2H, 3ER, 4BB, 3K (L, 0-6)

Michael Kelly-RP: 1.1 IP, 5H, 4ER, 3BB, 0K

Notes: Bryan Verbitsky’s struggles continued in this start with the Emeralds. Verbitsky is 0-5 with a 5.29 ERA over his last 10 starts. Verbitsky has gotten progressively worse as the year has gone on. He posted a 1.50 ERA in June, a 3.00 ERA in July, and now a 7.16 ERA in August. 2011 1st round draft pick Michael Kelly has had a disappointing 2013. Following tonight’s outing his ERA rose to 6.43.
