Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-5-13

Only 3 teams played tonight on the farm and the highlight was easily Zach Eflin’s dominant performance. Eflin was so good that he got the victory even though he was supported by only 4 hits. The AZL Padres were blown out by the AZL Giants while the T-Pads lost a close one 5-4.

Notes: Robbie Erlin has not been sharp at Triple-A this year. While he did strike out 6 batters in 5 innings in this start, he allowed 8 hits and 3 runs. His ERA rose to 5.18 across 83.1 Triple-A innings. Kevin Quackenbush rebounded nicely after a bad outing a couple of nights ago. Quackenbush’s ERA now stands at 4.18.

Zach Eflin-SP: 7.0 IP, H, 0R, BB, 4K (W, 6-5)

Notes: The TinCap offense only backed Eflin with 4 hits, but that’s all Eflin needed. Eflin enjoyed arguably the best start of his career. He allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk over 7 scoreless innings. Over 19 starts Eflin is 6-5 with a 2.81 ERA. Outside of April, he’s never had a month with an ERA higher than 2.57. Eflin has 77 strikeouts over 102.1 innings.

Franmil Reyes, one of the lone bright spots in the game, had 2 hits and extended his hitting streak to 6; he’s hit safely in 8 of his last 9 games. Dustin Peterson had 1 hit and is now hitting .308.
