Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-6-13

Max Fried had a great start as the TinCaps won 3-1. Led by Jeremy Baltz and Travis Jankowski, the Storm had an offensive explosion and blew out the Quakes 13-5. The Missions won 4-2 due to a good start from Donn Roach and 3 RBI from Rocky Gale.
Hitting Prospect of the Day: Jeremy Baltz
Pitching Prospect of the Day: Max Fried
Tucson Padres 0, Nashville Sounds 3
Cameron Maybin-CF: 0-2, K
Dean Anna-2B: 0-4
Mike Wilson-RF: 1-4
Cody Decker-1B: 1-4, 2K
Ben Francisco-LF: 1-2, BB, K
Chris Robinson-C: 0-3, K
Matt Andriese-SP: 5.0 IP, 5H, 3ER, 2BB, 5K, HR Allowed (L, 1-5)
Brad Brach-RP: 1.1 IP, 0H, 0R, 0BB, K
Notes: Matt Andriese has now lost his past 5 decisions with the T-Pads. Andriese didn’t pitch exceedingly well in this game, but he certainly didn’t pitch poorly; a 2-run homer tarnished what was otherwise a very good start. There was nothing positive offensively tonight. The T-Pads totaled 3 hits, all of which were singles.
San Antonio Missions 4, Arkansas Travelers 2
Cory Spangenberg-2B: 1-4, 2K
Reymond Fuentes-LF: 0-1, 3BB
Yeison Asencio-RF: 0-3, BB, Run scored
Jeudy Valdez-SS: 1-4, 2B, RBI, 2 Runs scored
Austin Hedges-C: 1-3, BB
Rocky Gale-DH: 3-4, 3RBI
Donn Roach-SP: 5.0 IP, 4H, ER, 4K (W, 7-10)
Jeremy McBryde-RP: 1.0 IP, H, 0R, 0BB, 2K (S, 10)
Notes: With a 3 RBI night, Rocky Gale was clearly the offensive hero in this contest. Donn Roach enjoyed one of his better starts tonight. Roach hasn’t had a great season, but he’s coming off of a great July in which he posted a 1.98 ERA over 5 starts. Roach’s problem is that he has been unable to string together quality starts. He’ll be hot for 2 or 3 starts and then allow 5 runs on 6 innings.
Lake Elsinore Storm 13, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 5
Travis Jankowski-CF: 3-6, 2B, 3RBI, Run scored
Kyle Gaedele-RF: 0-5, BB, 3K, 2 Runs scored
Jace Peterson-SS: 1-4, 2B, RBI, 2BB, K, Run scored
Jeremy Baltz-LF: 2-4, 2B, HR(7), 4RBI, K, 2 Runs scored
Dane Phillips-C: 2-5, 3B, RBI, 2 Runs scored
Duanel Jones-3B: 3-5, 2 2B, RBI, K, 2 Runs scored
Johnny Barbato-SP: 4.0 IP, 6H, 2ER, 2BB, K
Notes: Following tonight’s stellar game, Jeremy Baltz has 10 RBI over his last 6 games. Baltz’s RBI total with Lake Elsinore has now eclipsed his RBI total with Fort Wayne; in 160 AB’s with the Storm he has 34 RBI and in 168 AB’s with the TinCaps he had 33 RBI. Dane Phillips, who was recently promoted, has hit safely in all 4 games he’s played in with the Storm. Johnny Barbato made his second start of the year, and fared much better. He threw twice as many innings and allowed half as many runs from his first start.
Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, Lansing Lugnuts 1
Mallex Smith-CF: 1-3, RBI
Alberth Martinez-LF: 1-4, RBI, 3K
Luis Tejada-1B: 1-3, K
Rodney Daal-C: 1-2, RBI, BB
Brian Adams-RF: 1-3, K, Run scored
Luis Domoromo-DH: 0-2, BB, K, Run scored
Max Fried-SP: 6.0 IP, 5H, 0R, 2BB, K (W, 5-5)
Notes: Make it two scoreless starts in a row for Max Fried. Fried’s last two starts have been nearly identical; in both starts he went 6 IP, 5H, 0R, 2BB. Fried only has 5 strikeouts over that span, but he’s lowered his ERA to 3.46, and he has 86 strikeouts over 96.1 innings pitched.
Eugene Emeralds: DNP
AZL Padres 1, AZL Giants 2
Rod Boykin-CF: 0-4, 2K
Franchy Cordero-SS: 1-4, 2B, K
Dustin Peterson-DH: 1-3, RBI
Jose Urena-LF: 0-3, BB, K
Franmil Reyes-RF: 1-3, BB, 2K
Jake Bauers-1B: 1-4, K
Payton Baskette-SP: 3.2 IP, 2H, 0R, 3BB, 3K
Notes: For the second straight game, the AZL Pads score just 1 run. Dustin Peterson drove in the only run with a 2-out, RBI single. Payton Baskette rebounded from a tough start that saw him allow 4 runs over 3.2 innings. Baskette has a 1.69 ERA over 32 innings pitched this year.
