Daily Farm Round-Up: 9-3-14

Both games were decided by 2 runs tonight as the TinCaps won and offensive battle, and the Storm lost a close one. Both series are best of 3, so tomorrow the Storm face an elimination game.

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Dustin Peterson

Pitching Prospect of the Day: Bryan Rodriguez

Lake Elsinore Storm 2, Inland Empire 66ers 4

Alberth Martinez – CF: 2-4, K, Run scored

Jose Rondon – SS: 0-4, K

Benji Gonzalez – 2B: 0-3, BB, Run scored

Jeremy Baltz – LF: 1-3, RBI, BB

Gabriel Quintana – 3B: 1-4, K

Jeudy Valdez – DH: 2-3, 2B, K

Bryan Rodriguez – SP: 6.0 IP, 6H, 1ER, 3BB, 3K

Notes: Despite a quality start from Bryan Rodriguez, the Storm dropped the first game against the 66ers. Facing his old team, Jose Rondon went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. After collecting just 4 stolen bases over 97 regular season games with the Storm, Jeremy Baltz managed to swipe 2 tonight.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 7, West Michigan Whitecaps 5

Trea Turner – SS: 1-4, BB, K, Run scored

Ronnie Richardson – CF: 0-4, BB, K

Fernando Perez – 3B: 2-4, 2B, RBI, K

Jake Bauers – 1B: 1-4, Run scored

Dustin Peterson – DH: 3-3, 2 2B, 2RBI, 2 Runs scored

Josh VanMeter – 2B: 3-4, 2RBI, K, Run scored

Jimmy Brasoban – SP: 4.1 IP, 5H, 5R, 4ER, 1BB, 2K, 2 HR Allowed

Jason Jester – RP: 2.0 IP, 1H, 0R, 0BB, 2K

Notes: Dustin Peterson and Josh VanMeter combined for 6 hits, 4 RBI’s, and 3 runs scored as the TinCaps won their first playoff game against the Whitecaps. Dustin Peterson had been slumping heading into the playoffs, so it was satisfying to see him get on base every time he came to the plate. 1st rounder Trea Turner went 1-for4 with a walk in his first taste of playoff action.

Three weeks after I was born, Padre legend Tony Gwynn visited my hospital and handed out teddy bears to all the newborn children, including me. I have been a Padre fan ever since. Whether SD is in the midst of an exciting playoff run, or an uneventful off-season, I love following them and I love writing about them.
