Daily Farm Round-Up: 9-4-13

The minor league playoffs have rolled around, and the only qualifying teams were the Missions and the TinCaps. The Missions lost and the TinCaps won tonight, but both teams enjoyed excellent starting pitching from Matt Wisler and Joe Ross, respectively.

Round Up Image 234

Hitting Prospect of the Day: Reynaldo Bruguera

Pitching Player of the Day: Joe Ross

San Antonio Missions 1, Corpus Christi Hooks 2

Rico Noel-CF: 1-3, 3B, BB, Run scored

Cory Spangenberg-2B: 1-4, 3K

Adam Buschini-LF: 1-4, BB

Tommy Medica-1B: 2-4, RBI, BB

Yeison Asencio-RF: 2-4, 2B, BB, K

Austin Hedges-C: 0-5, K

Matt Wisler-SP: 6.1 IP, 2H, ER, 3BB, 4K

Notes: The Missions played like the San Diego Padres tonight. Matt Wisler turned in a great start for the Missions, but the offense did almost nothing to back him up. The Missions were a dismal 1-for-13 with RISP and wasted a leadoff triple in the 1st inning.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 5, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1

Mallex Smith-DH: 2-5, K, 2 Runs scored

Reynaldo Bruguera-2B: 1-4, 2B, 2RBI, K

Alberth Martinez-CF: 0-4, RBI, K

Gabriel Quintana-3B: 1-4, Run scored

Hunter Renfroe-RF: 2-3, K

Tyler Stubblefield-SS: 0-4, K

Joe Ross-SP: 6.1 IP, 2H, 0R, 2BB, 4K (W, 1-0)

Notes: Joe Ross came up big in the first playoff game. Ross pitched into the 7th, allowed only 2 hits, and didn’t allow a single run. Mallex Smith was a good catalyst for the TinCaps; he reached base twice, stole 2 bases, and scored twice. Hunter Renfroe also enjoyed a strong playoff debut with a 2-for-3 performance.
