Daily Friar 1.14.13

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

Some news is popping up today now that is Monday. Hey I guess even MLB front offices take the weekends off during their offseason. There are a bunch of great articles today, including three from the “where are they now” category. Also I generally don’t like putting multiple articles from the same website up, but today I am making an exception to that rule as I have two from MLB Trade Rumors as well as two from this very site. The Padres have their name linked to another player this week, which means that by Wednesday they will have dropped out of the running. And also once again another team is going after a player that the Padres have looked at for some time. You snooze you lose? All that information can be found below, so let’s get to it:

Shaun Marcum is drawing interest from the Padres, Pirates and Rangers, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports.”

Is Chase Headley’s breakout sustainable? – Fangraphs

“This doesn’t necessarily mean that Headley is doomed to revert back to the guy who posted a .326 wOBA over four straight years, but it does mean that he’s probably in for some serious regression.”

Luke Gregerson to pitch for team USA – Friarhood

“I’m honored to be able to help represent the USA, and to get the chance to play with some of the top players in the country.  Not to mention some of the top in the World.  Couldn’t be more excited.  Plus, I love seeing my dad when he gets news like this”

Diamondbacks are interested in Rick Porcello – MLBTR

“The Tigers would likely ask for a shortstop, a late-inning reliever or a right-handed hitting outfielder in a trade for Porcello, Morosi adds.”

Where are they now? The following articles are about former Padres and what they are up to today:

Geoff Blum set to join Astros’ broadcast team –

“Blum is expected to be behind the microphone for about 60 games a year this year, filling the role of color analyst when Bill Brown isn’t in the booth.”

Milton Bradley charged with abuse – ESPN

“Former Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners outfielder Milton Bradley has been charged with abusing his estranged wife and faces up to 13 years in jail if convicted, city prosecutors announced Friday.”

Former major leaguer Enzo Hernandez has passed away – ProRumors

“Former Padres shortstop, Enzo Hernandez, died today in Venezuela at age 62. Apparently he committed suicide. Hernandez was the 20th Venezuela born player to ever play in the Major Leagues.”

Adrian Gonzalez bleeds Dodger Blue – Friarhood

“Being a Dodger has brought out a little swagger, to the point he is willing to say ‘I bleed Dodger blue’.”
