Daily Friar 1.26.13
Good morning Friarhood! For those living in San Diego, are you enjoying the wet weather we are having? Yesterday we had a busy day over on the Facebook page with a ton of comments stemming from the Padres Membership Meeting. I am happy that you are all interested and talking about what is going on with the team. Also we had a discussion about Time Warner Cable and what they are doing of late with their programming. I don’t want to go too much further into it again, but you can check it all out on this site as well as the Friarhood Facebook page. I expect to have another discussion question coming up here shortly as it is an interesting one in my opinion. So that’s just a recap of what is going on in our world behind the scenes. As far as Padres news goes, believe it or not we actually have something to report today, so let’s get to it:

Randy Jones to help instruct Padres this spring – Padres.com
“Jones, who turned 63 on Jan. 12, will join the team during Spring Training as a special instructor around March 1, which is when the Minor League players report to the team’s Spring Training facility in Peoria, Ariz.”
The Padres have two players appear on the top 10 second basemen list – MLB.com
Number one is Jedd Gyorko:
“He’s a second baseman now and profiles nicely as an offensive-minded player, one who should hit in a big league lineup for a long time to come.”
The Padres have had the most boring offseason – Baseball Nation
“If there isn’t a single player guaranteed to be on the Opening Day roster from the trades, an offseason like this is eligible for consideration.”
Can Yasmani Grandal help the Padres in 2013? – Rant Sports
“I had lofty expectations for Grandal prior to his testing positive but, with his schedule now being completely thrown out of whack, I have my doubts. At 24-years-old he has plenty of years to make up for his illegal actions however, 2013 is a lost year for Grandal in my mind.”
