Daily Friar 1.29.13

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

It would be really nice if top tier celebrities and in this case baseball players could own up to what they have done and get on with their lives. Today an article has come out from Miami about Dr. Anthony Bosch, who has been supplying players with PEDs. Pretty much anyone who has been busted for PED use in the past couple years has been a client of this guy. This includes Melky Cabrera, Bartolo Colon and our very own Yasmani Grandal. All of these players have admitted to it and have accepted their punishment. However, and shocker I know, Alex Rodriguez’s name appears as well and he is denying any connection with Bosch. Here’s how I see it, A-Rod will most likely miss this season anyway due to his hip, why not admit to it and get the year suspension and be done with it? Now there will most likely be more wasted money looking further into this scandal. You can read more about it below, it will be the first article today because I think it is that important.

MLB has released a statement about the article – MLB.com

“‘We are always extremely disappointed to learn of potential links between players and the use of performance-enhancing substances. These developments, however, provide evidence of the comprehensive nature of our anti-drug efforts.’”

An interview with Matt Eddy – MadFriars

Will Chase Headley be a Padre this time next year? – Rant Sports

“The Padres might be able to avoid arbitration with Headley by offering him a one or two-year deal or even a longer contract. Obviously, the Padres would have to be certain Headley would be a part of any future being shaped in San Diego right now.”

Three for the Show: Second Basemen – Chris Kelly of The Friarhood

“Gyorko clearly has the inside edge to pin down the position for the foreseeable future, but he will have to earn his spot and show he can make those adjustments to be successful over the long haul.”
