Josh Byrnes steps in as the new GM as of last night. Hopefully tonight we will see game 6 of the World Series. Here are some links:

Josh Byrnes is officially the new GM – Padres official site

“The much-anticipated front-office shuffle became official Wednesday night, as the Padres and Cubs announced that San Diego general manager Jed Hoyer and assistant GM Jason McLeod left to accept positions in Chicago, with Josh Byrnes taking over as the Padres’ GM.”

Bill Center of the UT rates Hoyer’s moves as a GM

One of his best: “Rebuilding the farm system: Through draft picks and trades, Hoyer, with help from Jason McLeod, was turning the Padres farm system from one of the weakest in the major leagues to one now ranked solidly in the top 10.”

Dan Hayes says we won’t see compensation till after Rule 5 draft (via twitter)

Jerry Coleman is to be honored at the San Diego Air and Space Museum – NBC SD

“The museum will dedicate a restored F4U Corsair to the former Padres broadcaster, who served in both World War II and Korea as a Marine Corps pilot.”

Bill Center also talks about the AFL hitting leaders – UT

“Padres prospects Jedd Gyorko and Jaff Decker are, respectively, the second and eighth-leading hitters in the Arizona Fall League.”
