Daily Friar 11.19.11

The time has come for the 40 man rosters to be set. The rule 5 draft is right around the corner which means top prospects from around the league could be on the move. The Padres had to make some tough decisions this year, which isn’t entirely a bad thing. Here are links on the roster and other issues:

Padres set 40-man roster – Padres Official

“The Padres added right-handed pitchers Nick Vincent, left-handed pitchers Juan Oramas, Jose De Paula, Pedro Hernandez, infielder Edinson Rincon and outfielder Rymer Liriano.”

Ramona pitcher Nick Vincent among the roster additions – NCT

“While the Padres farmhand and Ramona native felt his numbers were deserving of a spot on the team’s 40-man roster, he wasn’t sure the club felt the same way. When Padres executive Randy Smith called to tell Vincent the team would add him to its 40-man roster, the 25-year-old relief pitcher had his answer.”

MadFriars are doing their top 30 of 2012 – John Coniff

“Every year when the top prospect lists would come out I would immediately scan to see where certain players were ranked, disagreeing that the writer either put them too high or too low.”

Bill Center conducted another Padres chat – UTRSS_Subscribe

On trading either Hudson or Bartlett:

“Padres aren’t going to swallow hard and buy out Hudson. That would require them to spend for another second baseman, something they won’t do. They want to trade either Hudson or Bartlett. If they can’t trade Hudson (and it seems like other teams know what went on here last year with Hudson), they would turn to trading Bartlett, who might have more value on the market than Hudson”

Adrian Gonzalez is trying to grab other Padres – MLBTR

“Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Adrian Gonzalez has been lobbying the Red Sox to check in on several Padres, including Heath Bell and strength/conditioning coach Jim Malone.”
