Daily Friar 1.14.12

Another day, another Daily Friar. Which also means one more day to spring training! Pitchers and catchers report in just under 36 days. Former Padre Kevin Kouzmanoff has signed a minor league contract with The Royals today. Interesting how he has fallen in the ranks ever since we traded him away. That was a testament to how high the team is on Chase Headley. Also a total of 142 players have filed for salary arbitration. The Padres have taken the lead this year with 11 players eligible. Bill Center had another weekly chat with the fans – Union Tribune

On the Fence issue:

Because nothing could be done for 2012 by the time he took over as general manager in October, Byrnes has not said much on the fence issue. He has, as you can easily see, spent a lot of time restructuring the Padres. But many of his moves have been made with an eye on the way Petco is now — the adding of line-drive hitters in Alonso, Baker, Kotsay and Grandal plus right-handed power in Quentin.”
