Daily Friar 2.24.13

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

After a very convincing win Friday against the Mariners, the Padres couldn’t quite get things done yesterday. That’s not to say they didn’t go down without a fight though. They did put up a five run ninth inning to close the gap. But alas it was all for not as the Padres dropped game two to the Mariners. There was plenty of good things to take from the game though, as Tyson Ross had a decent outing and Jeudy Valdez had a great game at the plate. You can read more about Ross in the article below, but Valdez went 2-2 with a double and a home run driving in 3 RBIs. That’s pretty clutch in two at bats for the game. Both these teams are at it again today for the third and final game of the opening series. Today’s lineup features quite a few guys that will most likely be on the opening day lineup. There isn’t much to get to today, but here is what I was able to find:

Tyson Ross allows homer, fans pair in two frames –

“Jason Bay bolstered his hopes of making Seattle’s Opening Day roster with a two-run home run in the first inning on Saturday as the Mariners topped the Padres, 8-6, at the Peoria Sports Complex.”

Jedd Gyorko should be the opening day second baseman – Rant Sports

“Honestly, unless something happens to Gyorko’s bat from now until the end of the spring season, I cannot imagine he could lose this job.”
