Daily Friar 3.13.13

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

The Padres played under the lights last night as they went to Scottsdale to take on the Giants. Freddy Garcia took the hill and looked to make up for a couple rough outings that he had prior. Well he definitely made up for them and pitched a stellar four innings. The only blemish that he had on his line was a third inning solo home run, but other than that he gave up only three hits and struck out six. The only other run the Giants managed to score came in the bottom of the ninth when a ball hit to right field hit Travis Buck in the glove and he failed to make the catch. This put the runner on third and he came in to score later in the inning. All in all it was a great game as the pitching did their part and the offense was spectacular. Tim Lincecum again didn’t have a great night as he is still trying to figure out his struggles from last season (apparently the hair cut isn’t working yet). That basically sums things up, but you can read into more detail in the articles below:

Randy Jones likes Donn Roach’s sinker – Union Tribune

“The first time I watched Roach throw a bullpen, I thought ‘he gets it’ . . . sinker and slider, in and out,” said Jones. “I like him a lot. He pounds the strike zone. He’s ahead on the scale of understanding. He’s a right-handed Randy Jones.”

Fautino De Los Santos optioned – NBC Sports

“Claimed off waivers from the Brewers last month, De Los Santos allowed three runs in four innings this spring. He’s flashed promise in the past but is coming off a poor season at Triple-A.”

Tyson Ross has something to prove with Padres – Rant Sports

“They are trimming the number of fastballs Ross throws and working to better his changeup in addition to leaving his nasty slider like it is.”

John Sickels gives us his top 150 prospects – Minor League Ball

“Here is a list of Top 150 Prospects for 2013. This list supplements, updates, and integrates the Top 50/50 Hitters/Pitchers list in the 2013 Baseball Prospect Book and adds another 50 names.”
