Daily Friar 3.16.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

It’s a little distracting to be writing this and having the NCAA tournament on at the same time. So apologies for maybe not keeping a coherent thought in this opening paragraph. Tomorrow is supposed to be the first telecast on Fox Sports San Diego. According to Tom Krasovic the game will be on even though a deal has yet to be officially announced. For Cox customers it will be on channel 56 (1056 in HD). I just looked and it is still the Speed Channel. So I don’t know when the switch will be made. Either way the FSSD feeds have been saying that it will be on as well. We’ll have to wait and see I guess. Here are your Padres links for today:

Grandal and Moseley stand out for Padres – Padres.com
“San Diego’s Dustin Moseley, likely to be the Padres’ fifth starter this summer, allowed just a fourth-inning run, tossing four innings and striking out two while scattering four hits.”

Tankersley tries to make long climb back – Padres.com
“But will he get that chance? Tankersley is hopeful, though he’s already proved something to himself thus far. He got himself and his arm in shape, he passed a tryout with the team. He’s given himself a chance.”

First Padres telecast set for Saturday, maybe – Union Tribune
“The new network will produce a telecast, but it can’t formally announce that fact because its 20-year, $1 billion contract with the Padres hasn’t been officially approved by Major League Baseball.”

Padres system stocked with top pitchers – NCT
“While Wieland, Kelly and Erlin don’t know where they will end up at the start of the season, they can see that the future is bright. Kelly is the most advanced and is expected to open the season in Triple-A.”

John Heyman of CBSSports says Moorad has too many enemies
“Moorad’s bigger issue actually is a blockby owners who haven’t been convinced to admit him to the owwnership club.”

FS San Diego aims high – insidethepadres
“A broadcasting stage near Tony Gwynn’s statue will be built beyond the center-field fence. Extra cameras will be used. In time, Fox will expect the quality of its Padres telecasts to rival the quality of its national telecasts.”

Where does Matt Clark fit with the team? – Chicken Friars
“Clark will thus have to make the most of any and every opportunity he gets with the Padres, because there will be talent at every spot he tries to win.”
