Daily Friar 3.28.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

Hey guess what? The Padres won again yesterday! This is becoming a common occurence in spring. Of course this means absolutely nothing (as Corey Brock argues in one of the articles below). Also word is that more cuts will be made later today. This far into the spring the cuts start to get a little deeper and harder to manage. I just read that Yasmani Grandal is making his rounds and saying his goodbyes. I will have the entire list tomorrow as it becomes available. There is a lot to get to today, so here are your Padres links for today:

Kelly looks strong before Padres rally against Dodgers –
“Brad Davis’ two-run double in the ninth plated the winning run as the Padres walked off with a 6-5 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday at the Peoria Sports Complex.”

Time for a Padres owner with money and motivation – Union Tribune
“The Padres need new ownership with the means to make things happen and the time to set things straight; someone who pays with cash instead of promissory notes; someone with both a prenuptial agreement and a succession plan; someone who can anchor a franchise that has been adrift for far too long.”

Moorad’s departure leaves many questions – NCT
“With a lengthy television broadcast rights deal with Fox Sports San Diego worth potentially $1 billion, one of the top farm systems in baseball and a 40-man roster devoid of overpriced contracts, the Padres should be able to attract buyers if they’re put back on the market.”

Fangaphs takes a look at the Padres for 2012
“Could this team surprise us in 2012? Yes. Could they move up the rankings significantly in 2013? Sure. Would I bet my favorite baseball cap on the matter?
