Daily Friar 3.30.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

Spring training is slowly winding down. The good news is the Padres are staying hot. The bad news is they are playing in a field that doesn’t play anything like Petco. So the question is, will they continue to stay hot once opening day comes? At this point in spring, most of the minor league players have been sent back to minor league camp. So when the team makes a late inning rally to beat a team, it means more now because a lot of the regulars are still in the game. Less than a week left till opening day and I’m getting excited. Here are your Padres links for today:

FSSD pessemistic about deal with ATT and Time Warner – Union Tribune
“In a move clearly designed to increase pressure on Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-verse, Fox Sports San Diego said Thursday night it does not expect either provider to be televising Padres games at the start of the 2012 season.”

Mark Merila is now a scout for the Padres – NCT
“The longtime bullpen catcher, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor 17 years ago and hasn’t caught since the end of the 2006 season, accepted a position with the Padres as a professional scout based out of his native Minnesota.”
