Daily Friar 3.7.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

It’s a big day for the Padres. Everybody will most likely see at least a little playing time today, as they are playing two split squad games. Half of the team will be on the road playing the Reds, and the other half will stay home to take on the Rangers. The big news of the day in the eyes of everybody on a band wagon is that Yu Darvish is making his debut in Peoria. The nice thing about this is Buddy hasn’t let up on his lineup. The squad going against Darvish is full of major leaguers, and probably will closely resemble are opening day lineup. Jeff Suppan is the starting pitcher in this game as well. So let’s hope the Padres can light up the scoreboard today. Here are your Padres links for today:

“Right-hander Tim Stauffer, who was the Padres’ Opening Day starter last year and is likely to be again in ’12, worked the first two innings. He gave up one run as Jarrod Dyson, who led off with a bunt single, scored on Jeff Francoeur’s sacrifice fly.”

Improving defense a priority for Padres in 2012 – Union Tribune
“Over the first two months of the season, the Padres struggled defensively. Half of their season total of 60 unearned runs
