Daily Friar 5.17.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

What did I say about the Padres yesterday? They are made to beat the best pitchers in baseball right now. Coming into yesterday’s game, The Dodgers’ Chris Capuano was 5-0 with an ERA hovering around 2.00. And yet the offense got the job done against him. And when I say the offense I mean Chase Headley. He was driving in runs like crazy. Give credit to Clayton Richard too for going a solid 7 innings, only giving up 2 runs in the first. Also the defense was great yesterday. Both Chris Denorfia and James Darnell making beautiful diving catches. Padres will go for win number 2 against the Dodgers, and the third win in a row behind Edinson Volquez tonight. Here are your Padres links for today:

Headley’s 3 RBIs give Richard, Padres win –
“The victory was Richard’s first since he won his first start of the season against the Dodgers at Petco. Since then, he had earned a no-decision and lost five consecutive starts.”

Gwynn would be a boon to Padres franchise –
“Gwynn, according to media reports, met on Tuesday morning with Thomas Tull, a prospective buyer of the Padres, at a downtown San Diego hotel.”

New owners not likely to maintain status quo – Union Tribune
