Daily Friar 6.28.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

Clayton Richard pitched a gem last night. 7 innings of 2 hit ball. The only problem is that one of the hits was a homerun. Now when your starting pitcher puts up only 1 run you expect to win. Especially since the previous two games were played with 8 runs and 3 runs respectively. However, this is the Padres and when your pitcher pitches a gem you don’t put up any offense. At all. Clayton took the loss in a game that any other pitcher in the league would have won. Not too often that you can lower your ERA and still lose the game in the end. Sad day really. Padres unable to support Richard’s gem –
“Harrell spread six hits over a complete-game shutout, helping the Astros take a 1-0 victory at Minute Maid Park in a tidy one hour and 58 minutes, the shortest Padres game this season.”
