Daily Friar 7.11.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

What do the American League All-Stars and the Padres have in common? They both put up lacklucster performances this season. The National League exploded for 5 runs in the first inning, and that was all that would be needed to get the job done as the game ended with a final of 8-0. So now ever since the new rules went into place 9 years ago, the National League has home field advantage in the World Series. Whether that should be the case is up for debate, but with Bud Selig in office it won’t change any time soon. Coming back to Padre land, when the season starts up again on Friday, we wil be up in Los Angeles to take on the Doyers. Here are your Padres links for today:

What’s the holdup on San Diego Padres sale? – Southern California Public Radio
“That negotiating period has been extended by what the Chicago Tribune said on July 8 would be another 10 days. The O’Malley Group is still the only bidder, and based on his recent public comments, it sounds like MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has given the deal his blessing.”

Huston Street to San Francisco? –
“The Giants do have a need for help in the bullpen as the team lost closer Brian Wilson and fill-in Santiago Casilla has struggled of late.”

MadFriars interviews Keyvius Sampson

Carlos Quentin trade rumors – Gaslamp Ball
“The Indians are trying to deal for Carlos Quentin, but I’ve been told that they don’t have much common ground with the Padres right now. They have talked about adding a starting pitcher. They intend to keep talking.”

Elbowing myself in the head – Avenging Jack Murphy
If Andrew Cashner’s trip to the DL (or any other future injury while starting sends him to the DL) forces Padres management to send him back to the bullpen due to concerns of fragility then I will elbow myself in the head.
