Daily Friar 7.17.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

I think we may have watched one of the most frustrating Padres games last night. The Astros are a terrible team plain and simple. Yes I know the Padres are bad too, but this is a team that we should be beating easily. And yet we couldn’t string together the hits to get anyone across to score. Another game with an 0′fer in the RISP numbers. It saddens me that we can out hit the other team, and yet not be able to score a measily little run. Or maybe this is falling right into the Padres’ plans, let them win the first game and then we’ll show them what we are really made of. Just like the Dodgers series before this allowing them to win 6-0, then slaughtering them the next two games. Hopefully we can pull off a win tonight. Here are your Padres links for today:

Dodgers duo goes to bat for O’Malleys – NCT
“”He is not buying a club just to buy a club,” said Davey Lopes, the Dodgers’ first-base coach and a four-time All-Star second baseman. “There are some things that they’ll have to do to make that organization very successful. And I have no doubt he will do it.”

Sore knee could hurt Quentin’s trade value – CBS Sports

Tom Krasovic has an article on ESPN explaining why the Padres need the brown now
“Done right, brown could be a moneymaker for the Padres, who have the smallest payroll in the majors and play in one of the five smallest TV markets in the major leagues. As the only major league team to wear brown, think of the marketing tie-ins with UPS. What brown can do for you.”

Chicken Friars talks ownership with Jeff Sanders
“Jeff Sanders was nice enough to take some time out of his insanely busy schedule to answer some Padres ownership related questions for Chicken Friars readers. Jeff covers the Padres for the North County Times.”

MadFriars interviews Jonathan Galvez
“This season one of the best hitters for the San Antonio Missions has been second baseman Jonathan Galvez.”

Chase Headley’s days with the Padres are likely numbered - Gaslamp Ball
“The Padres have been insistent that they do not have to make a trade. Yet they also know that Chase Headley’s value is at its peak. If they were to trade him, now would be the time when they’d get the most value in return. The Padres are very pleased with prospect Jedd Gyorko and see him as Headley’s heir apparent.”
