Daily Friar 7.29.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

I woke up this morning expecting a trade to have gone down in the early hours. That wasn’t the case, but the day isn’t over yet. Trades usually aren’t announced during games, but it’s an early game today so maybe we’ll see something this afternoon or this evening. I have mentioned before that I love this time of the season because you see moves being made all the time and it’s exciting to look out for the blockbuster trade. However, this time of the season is also frustrating because of the rumors and the back and forth decisions that are made all the time. You’ll see what I mean in the the articles below. Also there was an extension this morning, any guesses? Here are your Padres links for today:

Huston Street signs two-year extension –
“They think Huston Street fits that tradition, which is why the team announced Sunday it has agreed to a two-year contract extension with Street worth $14 million, with a club option for 2015.”

Another strong start for Ohlendorf not enough in Miami – NCT
“Ohlendorf (3-1) allowed three runs and four hits in six innings of the 4-2 defeat. He struck four and walked two.”

Chase Headley an option for the Yankees – CBS Sports
“The team’s plan, according to Rosenthal, would be to use Headley at third base until Rodriguez returns and then shift him to the outfield. For beyond 2012, Headley could replace Nick Swisher — a free agent following the season — as the every day right fielder.”

Padres to wait until offeseason to trade Headley – NBC Sports
“Olney thinks they might wait until the offseason to trade the third baseman, which would allow more teams to get in on the bidding. Headley won’t hit free agency until 2015, so the Pads certainly don’t have to deal him soon if they don’t find the right fit.”

Gaslamp Ball has a preview and thread for today’s game
Clayton Richard, one of two staples of our crumbling rotation this season, will take the mound for our Friars and try to restore the winning mentality to our team by leading them to a victory in the series finale.”

Brandon Cline gives us some thoughts on Huston Street
“However, since coming off the disabled list on June 5, Huston has been pitching very well for the Padres. He has posted a 0.90 ERA and 13 saves.”

Daily Farm Round-Up: 7-28-12 – Alex Bartlett of The Friarhood
“Maxx Tissenbaum has a career night as the Emeralds blow out the Volcanoes. Kyle Gaedele leads the TinCaps to a close win over the Silver Hawks and the Tucson bullpen takes the loss for the 2nd night in a row.”
