Daily Friar 7.30.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

One day left till the non-waiver trade deadline. So many grumblings are happening about all sorts of players, and I expect to see a lot of moves to go down today, with a ton more to come at the last second tomorrow. As you all know Chase Headley’s name keeps popping up. However, as we get closer to the deadline, the Padres seem more and more reluctant to trade him. Remember, the Padres don’t need to trade him because he still has plenty of contract left on him. The only plus of trading him now is that we could demand a huge return for him and then see Jedd Gyorko sooner. The next day will be interesting to say the least. Also the Padres lost yesterday (thank you Dale Thayer) and now we start a series against the Reds, who have only won 10 in a row. Here are your Padres links for today:

Phillies have interest in Chase Headley – NBC Sports
“The Phils need a solution at the hot corner with Placido Polanco nearing the end of his career and Headley would provide a major upgrade.”

Jeff Passan of Yahoo has a rundown on 10 big trade candidates
“Right now, the source said, this much is true: None of the offers is good enough, and time is ticking. The Padres expect to decide Monday, the source said, whether they deal Headley before July 31.”
