Daily Friar 8.21.13

A tough go-around for the Padres again last night. Tyson Ross got knocked around while struggling with his command, leaving too many pitches over the heart of the plate for Pirates hitters. Jedd Gyorko was the lone bright spot for the Padres’ offense with a solo blast in the bottom of the fourth inning. Unfortunately, they needed seven more of those to even tie the game, but today is a new day, which means a whole new ball game. The Padres’ Ian Kennedy will be matched-up against the young Buccos right-hander, Gerrit Cole at 3:40 PT. Make sure to tune-in.

This Date in Baseball History: August 21, 2010

Padres OF/1B, Matt Stairs, hits a major league record 21st pinch-hit home run of his career. He hit it off Kameron Loe of the Milwaukee Brewers, however, it was not enough as the Padres fell short in a 6-5 loss. – Baseball Reference
