Daily Friar 8.22.13

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

Ian Kennedy was lights out for the Padres yesterday as they were able to take the final game of the series against the Pirates. The Padres didn’t give him very much breathing room though as the offense again struggled to put runs on the board. This time they only managed two, but Kennedy was able to remain dominant. The Padres left seven men on base and went one for nine with runners in scoring position. It doesn’t help when your number four and five guys go 0 for 8 on the day. Padres have the day off today as the Cubs will come into town this weekend.

Kennedy dominates Bucs to take finale –

“Kennedy threw seven shutout innings of four-hit ball, as the Padres avoided a sweep with a 2-1 victory at Petco Park.”

Decker and Hynes to play winter ball this offseason –

“On Wednesday, San Diego manager Bud Black confirmed that outfielder Jaff Decker and left-handed reliever Colt Hynes will play winter ball this offseason.”

Padres pick up Arturo Lopez – MLBTR

“The 30-year-old Lopez has been in the Mexican League for the past three seasons but spent parts of five seasons with the Padres organization previously.”

Will the Padres explore a Chase Headley trade? – Rant Sports

“If he passes through waivers, he’s eligible to be traded this month. The Padres could wait until the winter to do so, but a playoff contender looking to add that final piece may not be willing to wait until then.”

Remembering Trevor Hoffman’s retirement ceremony – Padres 360

“I knew I needed to dig through photo files and find what I had from that day and just relive the amazing events. Once I did, I thought I should share it with you”

Reymond Fuentes on fire since joining AAA Tucson – Gaslamp Ball

“Since then he has been on fire, hitting safely in all 11 games he’s played and putting up a .400 batting average in that time.”

Get Shorty…out of center field – Padres Public

“But, there has been a better choice than Amarista the entire time. Black just hasn’t been selecting that choice. He kept throwing Amarista out there for some reason.”

Daily Farm Round-Up: 8-21-13 – Alex Bartlett of The Friarhood

“The AZL Padres, TinCaps, Storm, and the Missions all won by 1 run while Tucson won by just 2 runs. The TinCaps and the Storm enjoyed walk-off victories. Eugene was the lone team to lose in the organization tonight, and they only lost by 1 run.”
