Daily Friar 9.29.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

It must be getting close to the end of the season because the news is hard to come by with the Padres of late. The MLB world only cares about winning teams, and since the Padres are not winning right now there is no news here apparently. Of course I have come to expect this come the offseason, but not with a week left to play. I thought we would still have some stuff to talk about. After my thorough browsing of the internet to try and find Padres related articles I have come across 4. Well actually I found 5, but one was on the Union Tribune site that I can’t access because I have too many clicks. Anyways here are your Padres links for today coming off a loss to the Giants:

Padres have little luck against Giants’ Vogelsong –
“But after he allowed two line-drive singles and two balls that were hit on the screws for outs, Vogelsong didn’t allow much of anything else, settling down to lead the Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Padres at Petco Park.”

MLB’s Barry Bloom sat down with Josh Byrnes
“Sitting in the home dugout at Petco Park, during a wide-ranging interview, Byrnes talked in depth for the first time about what went wrong in Arizona and what is going right now in San Diego. And some might find his comments a surprise when it comes to strictly a sabermetric approach to the game.”

Club extends PDC with Tuscon Padres – NCT
“On Friday, the team announced it had extended its player development contract with Triple-A Tucson through 2014, the fifth such extension with the Padres’ minor league affiliates.”

Black says the Andrew Werner is still learning – CBS Sports
“He’s learning,” Black said. “We’ve seen some good work from Andrew this season. The Giants tonight were more selective. They drove up his pitch count. His stuff was fine. The Giants just had a plan against him.”
