Daily Friar 9.6.12

Daily Friar Banner Rennick

Every year on my birthday I wish for one thing: a Padres win. This year is no different, but the Padres are off today so I can’t really get that wish on the day of. However, they did take the series from the Dodgers last night so I take that as an early birthday present from the team that I have literally loved since birth. Story time: On the night that I was born, the game was on in the delivery room and the Padres won that night beating the Astros 3-2. So ever since day one it has been destiny for me to be a Padres fan. And now here I am having the privelage to write about my favorite team every day thanks to Steve Adler. But let’s get on to what you all actually want and that are links. So here are your Padres links for today:

Padres take series as ‘pen locks down Dodgers – Padres.com
“Clayton Richard didn’t stick around for the end of the Padres’ 4-3 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday to discuss the finer and not-so fine points of his 29th start of the season. After he was done pitching, Richard was excused so he could drive back to San Diego to be with wife Ashley, who is set to give birth to the couple’s first child sometime Thursday.”

Denorfia extended through 2014 – Union Tribune
“Denorfia is the sixth player to be extended by the Padres since last spring. He will make $2 million in 2013 and $2.25 million in 2014. The 32-year-old outfielder made $1.165 million this season.”

Solis enjoying call up from San Antonio – NCT
“Two months ago, catcher Ali Solis replaced Yasmani Grandal on the All-Star Futures game roster. On Tuesday, he was huddled next to Grandal in the visiting clubhouse at Dodger Stadium, the next step in a career that’s blossomed this year at Double-A San Antonio.”

Some notes from CBS Sports
“3B Chase Headley doubled home his 94th RBI of the season Wednesday. The RBI was also his 19th against the Dodgers in 2012 — tying the Padres’ single-season RBI record against the Dodgers, set by Dave Winfield in 1979.”

Edinson Volquez pushed back – NBC Sports
“Edinson Volquez will have his next start pushed back a few days due to a blister issue.”

Padres 2012 surge promising for 2013 – Baseball Nation
“There’s no guarantee that the Padres will contend in 2013, but, given the success of a young core that’s going to be together for a few years, one would think that they are going to be markedly better going forward than they will end up overall in 2012.”

MadFriars has their pitchers of the month of August
“Jason Ray and Jerry Sullivan shined out of the bullpen. Matt Wisler continues to perform in Fort Wayne along with his winter roommate Justin Hancock in Eugene and Josh Geer comes back to the pitchers of the month in San Antonio.”

Throwdown Thursday Week 22 – Chicken Friars
