Adrian Gonzalez's upcoming free agency has been a hot topic for the past year or so. Everyone in the baseball world has been talking about it one way or another and the senses is he is as good as gone. Surprising this also includes Adrian. When he and his agent both came out and said they were not willing to accept a below market offer this did not surprise me. He is not only one of the best first basemen in the league but one of the best players. However the way he went about it really discouraged me as a fan. He not only sucked the wind out of fans sails but hurt his trade value. Don't get me wrong, when the Padres do trade Adrian we will get ours. But when a player comes out and says he is going to test the free agent market and wants a contract his current team surely cannot offer is simply not called for. And I know the Chicago interview at the end of last year was not what it seemed but when your team is in a pennant race why are you putting yourself in that position? In closing I am a fan of the name on the front of the jersey. I have and always will be a Padres fan and I hope they do what is best for the team. And that simply is trading Adrian sooner than later.
