I think we haven't talked about the pinch-hitting market as much.
I had a few people in my mind right now.
We could always bring back Stairs, who I have to say was influential to the club.
I'd say that he has a little more in the tank.
But I also considered some people like Mike Sweeney.
His salary with the Phillies was $650,000, which is less than what Stairs got paid in 2010.
Their stats are pretty similar, with Sweeney having 8 HRs opposed to 6 Staits hit.
The only stats that Stairs did better at was the # of games played and SLG. %, but just by a little.
Sweeney is 37, while Stairs turns 43 before spring training.
I think Sweeney, if not picked up, should consider playing with the Padres. Who knows? Maybe when Adrian leaves, he might be good enough to take over 1B for him.
I also thought about Gary Sheffield. He actually hasn't retired yet. He's about the same age as Stairs, just younger by 9 months.
Gary can play OF as well as 1B so I thought that was a little interesting.
However, he was paid $16 million in 2009. I doubt that he'll go for a >$3 million deal.
Other random thoughts were Hideki Matsui (again, extremely doubtful), Andrew Jones, and Pat Burrell.
What do you guys think?
