Cheri Bell covered all of the possibilities for rounding out the bench a few days ago here:http://www.friarhood.com/padres-info/2010-off-season/704-2011-padres-the-bench.htmlhere. So who makes the cut?

We already know our starting 8: Hundley, Hawpe, Hudson, Headley, Bartlett, Ludwick, Maybin, and Venable.

We already know 4/5 of our rotation: Latos, Richard, Harang, and Stauffer.

We know most of our pen: Bell, Adams, Gregerson, Frieri, Thatcher, and Qualls.

We know that Moseley will likely be on the roster whether he starts or relieves.

We know that Denorfia is our 4th outfielder and Cantu is our backup corner infielder.

That leaves 4 spots. We will likely carry 12 pitchers and 13 position players, so that leaves 1 spot for a pitcher and 3 spots on the bench.

The pitcher will come down to who wins the 5th spot in the rotation. It appears to be a three person race with Moseley, Luebke, and LeBlanc. If Luebke or LeBlanc win, Moseley will likely round out the bullpen. If Moseley wins the 5th spot, they could give the last spot in the bullpen to Rule 5 Pick George Kontos.

We will need a backup catcher. I think it comes down to Greg Zaun, or Rob Johnson.

We will need a backup middle infielder that can play SS. The only viable candidate I see is Kevin Frandsen; although, he's not currently on the 40 man roster.

The last spot on the bench will probably be another outfielder. Since there isn't a left handed bat on the bench other than the possibility of the switch hitting Zaun, I think it goes to Patterson.

So, here's my 25 man roster:

Hundley
Hawpe
Hudson
Headley
Bartlett
Ludwick
Maybin
Venable
Denorfia
Cantu
Zaun
Patterson
Frandsen
Latos
Richard
Harang
Stauffer
Luebke
Moseley
Qualls
Thatcher
Frieri
Gregerson
Adams
Bell

What's your guess?

I agree with your roster except I would switch A.Cunningham with Patterson. Everytime Aaron was called upon he came through and for some reason was rarely used. He has good glove, decent pop, and nice speed. Don't really know much about E.Patterson besides his stats. Looks like AC has better BA. So I guess it's a coin flip. I personally think AC has earned a shot and was the best piece from that (horrible cuz they couldve got way better than SHairston) Kooz trade.imo

I do like Cunningham a lot. Patterson has the advantage of being left handed though. We already have a right handed reserve outfielder in Denorfia and the only other possible left handed bat off the bench would be the switch hitting Zaun. Patterson is also out of options, so he's on the team or he's gone. Cunningham can be sent to AAA for depth, and he'd be able to play everyday.

I agree, like I said I just liked watching AC last year. AC most likely will be sent down. It looks from EPs stats last year in BOS he has some pop and speed. Your right about the LH bat. Also who knows if Deno will repeat his numbers from last season? So AC could be back sooner than later.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll see Cunningham at some point this year.
