I can't help but wonder about the recent players designated for assignment by the A's. Both Dana Eveland and Willy Tavares are guys who I think could help this squad, but I am not all together sure if there is room for them, or who we would designate if we went after them. Just wanted to see what everyone thought about these guys because Willy's speed and Eveland's arm are very intrigueing to me!

Padres already have Taveras, his name is Tony Gwynn Jr. haha...i definitely agree that there has to be someone that can be pulled off the scrap heap.

I agree hitting wise as far as the Gwynn/Taveres comment...but Taveres is on another level speed wise. Taveras and Cabrera on base would absolutely give other teams fits.

Maybe we can somehow combine Stairs and Taveras into a super pinch hitter. Power and Speed...with the beer belly of John Kruk. Would no doubt instantly become my favorite player on the team!

At this point TGJ and Scott Hairston make a pretty good platoon situation in CF, no way would I want "willy T" taking any time away from that scenario. Taveras despite hitting in one of the most friendly hitters park in baseball, regardless of what type of hitter he is has been declining, TGJ really has improved his game, that would be a risk and at a position where we have now ran into a "good problem", TGJ, Cunningham, Hairston's. I know TGJ does not have the speed of Willy T but I do believe he can hit for AVG and still steal some bags, his D also was vastly improved at the end of the season in contrast to the beginning.
As for Eveland is concerned, I like his make up, but who do you drop to add him?

I am not happy with Eckstein as the every day second baseman, but other than that I'd rather just see these kids play and I am happy with the bench and rotation.
Not that I think we are world series bound, but its going to be a good foundation to build off off rather than the squad of aging veterans that we usually had in the Petco years.

agreed, i have an outside hope that antonelli will impress during ST and at least make it a competition. but i really doubt it. i think they brought eckstein back to have a veteran presence in the line-up every day outside of Adrian

i'd also venture a guess as to say that they'd like to see eck just racking up those singles so that when adrian or blanks step up to the plate we have something to drive in.
