Baseball is only a few days old but the potential trade talk has unfortunately started.

This thread will be to talk about the most recent rumors and discussing what to expect if the Padres do in fact decide to trade AGon.

"That's really what we need, a big left-handed hitter," one Sox person said. "They're saying Kenny would give anything to get him, maybe even [Gordon] Beckham."

from MLB trade rumors

I wouldn't touch any deal with the White Sox unless Beckham is the first name on the list of players. I would probably take Beckham, Flowers and one of Mitchell/Hudson for Adrian.

Any hope of the Padres keeping Adrian was shattered today. The UT has a story up quoting Adrian's agent as using Texeira's contract as a comparable moving in to free agency.

Even as a huge Gonzalez fan I could not advocate a contract of that size for ANY player on a team with a payroll this size.

For those who were still holding out hope: The clock has officially begun ticking.

Every time I get excited about getting young talent for Gonzalez I remember how punchless the lineup is without him...Jed really needs to make the Padres look good on this trade

I think Blanks, Headley and others break out this year and make it much easier to trade Adrian at the deadline. Bringing back Beckham in a deal would also pad the impact.

That's the great thing about it actually. This team doesn't need a ton of punch to win in Petco. It needs to be able to hit the gaps and run.

It's amazing how horrible AG is inside of Petco, he will blow up somewhere else, it's just a questions of what the Jedi can get for him.

If we trade Adrian to the white sox and we do get beckham back where does he play?? Doesnt he play SS and 2B?? Im pretty sure they arent going to sit eck everyday since he is getting paid close to 1 mill. And they really like cabrera so where would he play??

He would play second unless Cabrera has a terrible year. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't put Eckstein on the bench or release him if they got a up and coming potential star 2B man. It's not like they are going to be throwing a million dollars away. Halfway through the season they will have paid about half of that 1 million dollars, they could trade Eck or put him on the bench. Even if they release him another team may pick him up and would pay some of his remaining contract. Moreover, trading Adrian for Beckham and prospects gives us some salary relief from Adrian's contract. That's a non-issue.
