With Joe Nathan possibly out for the season the Twins are in need of a closer. I'm sure Heath Bell is looking pretty good. Without taking a look at what the twinkies have to trade I wanted to see what you guys thought about moving Bell.

I screamed from the roof tops last year to trade him in July, but KT stuck with him.

My argument about keeping a closer is simple, you have to win games to have a need for a closer.
I don't think this team is in a position to win the division in 2010 and Bell is not a long term option. If Jed can get a kings ransom then let's start moving into the LUUUUUKE era!

I think it depends on what you get in return. It didn't sound like KT was getting offers he couldn't refuse last year. The Cubs are another team that could come calling. He will probably be gone by the deadline with Adrian and possibly others.

Seems to me that the Padres are dug in with Heath. Closers dont typically bring much back in the way of trade unless theyre really really good. Guess it depends on how bad a team needs him. The Nathan injury came out of nowhere, so maybe thats a desperate enough situation for them to go after Bell. On our end of things we may be young but I think we'll seriously compete this year. And we're going to need Bell. Luke is good but Id like to see him set up for another year or two before I call him a closer. Bell had to do a two year internship behind Hoffman. Buddy would have to think about things differently if Gregerson's the closer. Is Thatcher a 8th inning guy. Can someone fit the bill if he isnt. Thats a lot of last minute shuffling if Bell leaves in ST. I think he stays unless Jed gets an offer he cant refuse.

I don't see why Gregerson would be the closer over Adams. Adams may be better than Heath right now. Who know's how he would be in the 9th but, he certainly pitched well with pressure in the 8th last year. I don't see why we wouldn't get a decent package for Bell. He's under team control for 2 years at a reasonable price and I'd say the NL saves leader on a team that didn't win many games IS very good. If he has a strong first half teams are going to be calling. Look at what Houston got for Lidge and he wasn't exactly the most consistent closer in baseball. He also only had 1 year left under contract. I'll tell you what. I would love a Michael Bourn clone patrolling CF for Heath Bell.
