With 6 out of 7, and 5 in a row, they are starting to look like that team I saw last year. Given, it's spring training, but I love what I have seen so far.
A few thoughts:
-Jerry is looking like the best Hairston at the moment, and clutch like his brother
-Denorfia has impressed, although against lesser talent to a large extent.
-Have there been better back to back plays then Zawadzki's "Re-Direct" and Forsythe's barehanded "Kouz like" play to gun out a guy at first yesterday?
-If Durango can hit the ball on a line a little more, he is going to be a Juan Pierre or better talent.
-I have seen nothing out of Kyle Blanks that tells me he can't hit 4th to start the season...and I was one of those guys who wanted to protect him and bat him 5th or 6th...if the kid has the talent, put him where he belongs!
-Damn we have alot of pitching!!! Minus yesterday's start; Gallagher, Latos and LeBlanc have all impressed. Worrell looks good also...and the bullpen guys look as dominating as ever.
-I know it's spring training...but it still feels great to win 2 in a row against the Dodgers
-Sorry Mr. Stauffer, but I don't believe there is room for you on our club...thanks for your time, service, and classiness (Not many guys would do what you did when drafted passing up great bonus money to be HONEST). I wish you all the best, I believe your walking papers are coming soon.
-My optimism is HIGH, GO PADS!!!

Yeah it is tough not to be optimistic around this team right now. Everything that is going on has been great. Blanks is an absolute beast and just may be a breakout candidate for the whole league no just the Padres!

yeah the interest in the spring is very high and there is plenty of optimism in the coming season and i'd have to say so far its well deserved. We are playing well!!
I was at those 2 games against the dodgers and was yelling me head off talking trash, mainly at manny but it was just great to see the guys stick it to em. There has been alot of double digit hitting games which is great to see.
I was watching the guys before warm ups on friday before the LA game and it just seemed to me that the guys are really loose and just having alot of fun. the were all playing basketball and having a lot of fun, smiles all round and an easy going nature. Hopefully if we can keep this attitude we may be able to this into a few wins
Bring on the season
Go Pads!

Im lookin forward to the season too. I was catching up on what the division rivals on the front page had to say about us. The Giants are calling us "spoilers" and the Rockies have us finishing last this year. I said somebody will be eating crow and I meant that. I am a little worried with Blanks hitting behind Adrian in clean up. I dont know how long Buddy's had him hitting 4th but yesterday he looked a little over-matched. Was he hitting clean up while you were there?

Clean up is kyle's position, he'll fit into it nicely. We cant read to much into spring results because they are very up and down, for example adrian is hitting like .200, the stats don't tell the story. but watching blanks in the 2 games i saw he was outstanding. he hit .750 against the dodgers!!! which would be nice in regular season. Kyle seems to be a very good fit at clean up and if we get a full season out of him at the rate he was going last year we could have a lot of very happy fans.

I'm with you. I don't mind them putting him in there every once in a while and if he does well than increase his games in the 4 hole. Headley is making me feel much better about hitting him in the 4 hole with is spring training leading RBI's.

I had those same thoughts initially. The more I think about it though, I think a strong spring is good for the confidence of a team with such young players. I can't remember a Padre team having as young of a roster as we have this year. I think it builds all the kids up into believing they can win, and gets them going as the season begins. We will certainly know after the first month of the season...the schedule is no cake walk in April.

What I don't want to happen is the Padres give Blanks that spot in the lineup and Blanks go into a slump that he can't get out of.
