I realize we keep talking about upgrading the OF, but what about 3B?
Chase was great in April, but since then has gone back to form. Having a .250 hitter with minimal power that can't drive in runs in the middle of the order is just brutal.
I would like to see them take a look at some options and if need be you can always move Chase to LF (cringe).
Mark Renolds?
Miguel Tejada?

Hmmm sounds like an interesting idea Steve, not sure that we would move chase because the club seems to really be big on him, case in point the kouz trade. Chase seems to be the kinda guy that could knuckle down and put that avg at .275 and I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with 20 HR's by the playoffs. Though if we could get either of those 2 guys that would be very interesting. Was nice to see the guys put up a few runs today without eck and gonzo.

I have talked at length about Mark Reynolds/Headley potential package/swap before, Steve had also mentioned that he had brought up Mark and nobody had interest.
The Padres are not dealing Chase Headley while in first place unless it makes sense. I could see a player like Mark Reynolds (he will be making some money) perhaps, a strikeout machine but he can hit the ball out anywhere. Moorad has ties to Az., Maybe Az. would rather go cheap with Headley (he would DEF fair better in that park) and he is a switch hitter and has become a very solid third basemen. Chase also avoided super two status. I think that trade would make some sense because it could POSSIBLY fair well for both teams. Mark Reynolds would be an opposing threat behind Adrian (Poor Avg or not, he produces) for sure regardless of his strikeouts. That could work out well for both teams however, I wouldn't hold my breath on the Padres giving up on Headley before the year. Reynolds, .212 /.328/.475/.802 However, 18 HR's 50 RBI but 107K's!
At the end of the day I like Chase and I do believe he can put up solid numbers and maintain he could hit 275-300 perennially with 14-18 HR's while possibly swiping 15-20 bags. The problem is for third base, he is not a run producer yet! The FO wanted to get a full season for Chase at third to fully evaluate him and they will do just that. I think an addition to third is VERY unlikely!
The Padres have moved Logan Forsythe to 2nd, projecting him as a better second basemen considering his "lack of power". James Darnell has had a set back and as I have stated many times (before the year) he is probably the long term solution anyways at 3rd as long as he can continue his development and get back on track. The over all consensus in Baseball about Darnell is he will be a legit stud at third (unless he is moved to a corner outfield spot) when is the question not if.
So I think we will se Chase for AT LEAST this year and probably until Darnell is ready to take over, until then, a trade for an upgrade is probably just a pipe dream and probably not realistic for many reasons.
That said, Mark Reynolds is very enticing, and again probably very unlikely.
Headley heated up in the second half last year, I expect the same this year, lets focus on the outfield, a very needed area for a potential upgrade.

While we are talking about mark Reynolds, I had a thought about Kyle blanks, it seems to me if Kyle reaches his full potential and plays like the guy he knows he can be I see him being very much like Reynolds, hitting the ball a million miles and getting plenty of rbis but also while hitting the long ball striking out a lot, like seen with another star of the game Ryan Howard. Now let itbe known I am not comparing Kyle to either of those two because he has a long way to go, but their style of ball seems to be very similiar to how Kyle had been going.

I agree with Aussie Phil that Kyle Blanks is the key to our woes. We were having the same problem with leadoff/CF until Gwynn started to hit to his potential. Now we have a leadoff/speed guy that can get on base without giving up anything on defense. If a healthy Blanks can come around as Gwynn and Venable have we will be looking real good. Chase on the other hand was our best hitter in April and I see no reason for him not to be able to repeat that in July or August. I believe with the depth of this team we can continue to win with what we have.
